Here is link to your original review post done June 17, 2013 of your June 9, 2013 Breakaway cruise. Parts of it are outlined in Weltek's post above. You might want to read it again to see if you really want to sail on the Getaway since many of the things that bothered you (ship layout for example) are exactly the same as the Breakaway.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1864100

We were just on the Getaway the week of January 17th and dearly loved everything about the cruise with the exception of not fun and very tight penny machines in the casino and bed a little too close to the closet. LOL I knew the bed thing going in but still... Other than that, beautiful ship, best entertainment we've seen on any cruise, good to really good food and the best crew starting from the top of any ship we've been on. We like this class of ship so well we're booked on big sister Escape for January 2016 and the Breakaway for October 2016.

Although it seems foreign to freestyle on these bigger ships you need to do a little advance planning to have the best experience. For our Getaway cruise we searched Cruise Critic and the web for the Week at a Glance and freestyle dailies for our itinerary. Comparing a couple it looked like many things repeated week to week so it gave us a starting place to make reservations. We booked Burn the Floor and Legally Blonde late shows (10 and 10:15) on nights where they did not interfere with the Bob Marley Tribute or the Fireworks. We booked Wine Lovers the Musical luncheon. We booked a 5:30 dinner at Illusionarium on Wednesday St. Thomas day. I made a little calendar spread sheet and put in these bookings along with the Meet and Greet and the Latitudes Gathering. When we boarded the ship we went to Guest Services where there is a restaurant reservation area and made reservations for Cagneys (stockholder benefit) and LeBistro and LaCucina as platinum benefit dinners. We tended toward earlier dinners because it was our 3rd member preference and this worked out quite well for attending various entertainment options throughout the week. We ate at O'Sheehans, Taste and Savor depending on our mood and what was being served. We really loved having the Ultimate Beverage package.

kjquilts I get that for my father in law and get my other half and myself sea bands, hate taking those type of medications due to they interfere maybe with my prescription meds. Thanks.

Laszio, honestly, I never have a problem with reservations in restaurants and we are usually 8-10 and never waited longer than 10 minutes for our table. Perhaps the ship might of been booked up?

Sissasmome- Yep hated the Breakaway my worst ship ever been on and the Allure/Oasis my best ship I ever been on, but we have family going on the Getaway and we want to be with them since they do not live in Florida where we are and we only get to see them once maybe twice a year only. What is important is to be with family even if my father in law, my other half and myself hated the ship. Its not going to be our only cruise next year and we always take land vacations too, so family comes first on this particular trip.

Lacaena your correct I don't eat cold cuts at home, but they told me it was gluten free and I didn't get sick. Thank you.

Weltek- We go on at least two-three cruises a year and 2-3 land vacations per year so we don't mind spending the money but this cruise all about being with our family who are booked on the Getaway. NCL happens to be inexpensive anyways actually surprised at the rate, thats a good thing lol.

NCL doesn't have the timed dining so there won't be a way for me to put in my special dietary needs for dinner but thats a great idea you just gave me thank you!!!

Kjguilts....perhaps things are better now when it comes to the food and service issues. On the Breakway we dined at all the specialty restaurants with the exception of the italian place, and I would go again because I feel what you get in the MDR is lesser quality than what you get in the specialty restaurants. So, I just loose more weight but one thing is great we get complimentary ultimate beverage packages can't beat that for free!!

My 2 cents --- do not go on the Getaway.. it is not the ship for you, if you have been on 50+ cruises, you are a VERY experienced cruiser and you must understand the concept of sister ships. I don't know why you are looking for anyone to sway your opinion.

best of luck

The only thing I will address is the vessel motion. My question to the OP is; have you done and East Coast cruise other than Breakaway. Comparing a trip up and down the Gulf Stream to a Caribbean cruise is like comparing a paved road to a dirt one. Yes, the Caribbean can be rough at times, but the Gulf Stream and the Atlantic ocean have their own set of swells, seas, and winds. You mentioned that you've read about motion when returning north on Breakaway, what do you think causes this? Wind, wave, and swell. And when you are going the opposite direction, this will change the vessel's response to these things.

Unless you have experience with other ships sailing NY to Bermuda, you can't compare Breakaway's motion to anything.

Vargasjv, already booked and paid insurance...we are only going to be with family that lives out of our state and we only get to see them once or twice a year and usually it happens when we take trips together...we will see one another this year on our Aruba land trip together in July. The Getaway is to be with family and it won't be our only cruise next year and we do take land vacations also so I feel family comes first before the ship on this one. ;)

chengkg75- oooooh yeah...we were on the Breakaway two years ago from NY to Bermuda, that ship was rocking big time for a day and a half on the way back to NY. I heard this is common in that area because of the currents and another reason why I feel the Getaway out of Miami to the caribbean will have less motion. Knock on wood, I can't recall in years the last time I cruised in the caribbean and had bad seas, been many many years and knock on wood here!! I have been on cruises where we missed ports due to hurricanes but never encountered the motion on any cruise that we had on that Breakaway lol. At that time the Breakaway must of been my 49/50th cruise and it was the first one I actually turned albino and my other half almost had to run to a garbage can haha.

So, with this being said, we figured the Getaway be a lot less motion.

could you please tell me what deck you were on and was it mid ship?

we leave saturday and we are mid ship on 10th deck in 10176...been on 2 cruises before

disney & RCL and absolutely no rocking... I've gotten a "patch" from my doc just in case

We were by the aft elevators in cabin 10278. Personally I believe that the Getaway is not as capable of handling swells as other mega ships I've sailed on. Most of which I have sailed in the Caribbean. Most people are not bothered as long as they are pro-active in taking motion sickness medication. Thinking you being mid-ship and having a patch you'll be alright. Let us know what happened as If I understand correctly today is your sailing.

This poster disliked EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything. He/she spent months asking the same questions over and over and over again, only to come back and complain for MONTHS about how much he/she hated NCL, would never sail NCL again, blah blah blah. It was beyond annoying. It got to the point where most of the regulars asked the poster to leave the board. Hopefully, this will be different. Not attacking the original poster, just hope history doesn't repeat itself here on this board.

Have to agree with SissasMom on this. The OP is basically asking the identical things she did before her Breakaway sail. Almost as if it was to kill pre-cruise boredom/anxiety, or to bump up her post count.

Not only did she HATE the Breakaway and NCL, but now she has chosen to sail the one ship that is identical to the Breakaway! She is setting herself up for a miserable time on purpose.

Some of you people really don't get it, sure I hated the Breakway it was my most hated ship but I was with family and THAT IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT! Same with I booking the Getaway, I will hate the ship but I AM WITH FAMILY that I normally don't get to see because we are 1600 miles away from one another. For those who have difficult understanding this I say it in baby way for you....being with family is what makes the cruise and family is important to me so its worth me to sacrifice and go on a ship that I dislike but the outcome of loving my family and being with them is more important to me, thats just me.

In my family, family comes first.

Two years have past by things could improve and gotten better.

Yes, I hated the Breakaway, its two years later and things could be different....FOR AN EXAMPLE, regarding the Allure of the Seas many people in the past two years have made statements on the RC boards about the staterooms being too warm during the night, I also experienced the same issue when I went on her BUT NOBODY makes this claim that have gone on her sister ship Oasis of the Seas. So two sister ships can be different.

Why are people rude here (you know who you are), I have written positives and negatives on Princess, RC and Carnival never to have the ruddiness I get here on this board. You don't have to read and comment if you don't wish to, or perhaps, you just have to jack up your posts. Shame on you.

Some of you people really don't get it...

With all due respect, many on this board are very likely thinking the same thing... about you. Example of why...

sure I hated the Breakway it was my most hated ship but I was with family and THAT IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT! Same with I booking the Getaway, I will hate the ship but I AM WITH FAMILY

Many are left wondering: If being with family is the most important thing, and if you've already clearly stated your sincere dislike for the product, why are you persisting in demanding that others here somehow make you feel better about choosing to sail on a ship we all know you're going to hate? You're right... we don't get it. ;)

Why are people rude here (you know who you are), ...

Once again with all due respect, some of us are feeling that perhaps it is you who are being rude. For instance...

For those who have difficult understanding this I say it in baby way for you....

Personally, I hope you have a fabulous time onboard the Getaway and come back with a glowing review. However, I'm not holding my breath.

Waldospepper with all due respect, nobody has to read my posts and my board here, its actually pathetic to know that people are here to actually to be entertained and rude to me rather than to help me and give me advice. I wrote this post asking about certain things about the Getaway, not to have people bring up my past posts regarding another ship (a sister ship can be different in many ways) that I placed even back two years ago after I got off the Breakaway, two years IS a very long time, things can change BUT IF PEOPLE REALLY READ MY FIRST POST I simply needed assistance with opinions and advice as to which type cabin category and which cabin number they thought would be best for me and which deck. I have not stayed in a spa balcony before and just was asking about it figuring people will give me some info so that I can learn about it.

Most importantly, two years ago is a long time, and back then on the Breakaway the lunch buffet really didn't offer me anything to eat. I can eat meat carvings, plain veggies, some fruit and a baked potato and rice. The ship did not provide a daily carving for the buffet lunch, even Carnival remains to have one each day! The entrees in the buffet all had sauces and gravys which contain gluten that I get very sick from, the vegetables all swam in sauces again containing gluten....they had NO gluten free desserts, I don't even recall ever seeing just plain jello. The salad bar was the skimpiest salad bar I ever seen on any ship, there was only one type of green, a handful of salad bar items, some olives and diced cheeses, basically I had only this certainly nothing memorable and I was told that their hot dogs and burgers contained gluten also. Two years is a long time away and for your information, there are many other people that need to be gluten free such as myself, with this being said, two years have gone by I simply wanted to know what the Getaway offered as far as gluten free foods as I would think they would acknowledge the fact that people do have this medical issue and would think they would accommodate us. There was nothing wrong in my post, there is no reason why people here have to be argumentative and rude, although unfortunately and sadly, there are people like this in this world.

If you can't find things you enjoy eating on a ship that offers over 20 dining options, many with menus changing daily, a ginormous buffet, and special accommodations, then I'd have to say the issue is with you and not the ship.

Agreed. Loving the fact that this post came from a poster called LrgPizza though!!

Oh I remember you and all the posts/questions about the Breakaway.

I've sailed both, as you know I answered several of your Breakaway questions two years ago. My Getaway cruise was in October and I'll tell you, not much is different.

The lunch buffet pretty much has the same foods, there is now the Flamingo Grill instead of the Uptown Grill. Perhaps they have more gluten free options? There are no lunch time meat carving stations.

Honestly the Getaway had more motion than the Breakaway, and that is saying something since I experienced 27ft seas on the Breakaway and the Getaway has small waves at 5ft. Both ships I had a mid ship mini suite cabin.

The pool desk is the same so you'll have to deal with small pools.

I guess all you can do is think you're with family which is important and forget the fact that you hate the ship since it is nearly identical to the Breakaway.

Lindysails FYI, not only can I not eat gluten items, I can't have dairy, I can't eat eggs, I can't eat chicken, sausage, turkey, lamb, burgers, hot dogs and I don't eat seafood other than lobster, mahi, grouper and sea bas. So you now understand my needing to know what this ship has to offer me? If I know I am going to loose weight I just eat a lot more here at home because my doctor doesn't want me to loose anymore weight as I am at my minimum weight for my 5'7" height.

What I can eat you may say....meat carvings, beef of all types, pork of all kind, plain vegetables, salad with oil and vinegar, rice and occasional baked potato along with the seafood items I mentioned above.

Yes, I normally do eat at the specialty dining restaurants because they offer me what I can eat but there are no places open to get those items for lunch and this is why I am asking about lunch/lunch buffet, and breakfast the only thing that they have that I am able to eat are gluten free items (another reason why I am asking what they offer), fruit and potatoes.

Maybe now you can understand why its so important for me to plan and see what is available to me. At least on Carnival and RC late night I can order a gluten free pizza with toppings I can have. But food isn't the most important thing for me on this cruise its my family but I have to think of my health and plan accordingly.

For you arrogant people, just maybe one day you be in the same situation as I am then you understand my post and questions. Remember, when you least expect things to happen they do and it could very well happen to you or any health condition can happen where you have to watch yourself and count on these boards when you take cruises to get the answers you need. I thank all of you that have been kind, respectful and given me good advice and answering my questions, BLESS YOU.
