Freckle53 Posted April 3, 2017 #301 Share Posted April 3, 2017 Wow, what an awesome thread. Thank you Saint James for incredible info for Hotwire. I would never have used it. We are on an 8/28 cruise and are flying in the night of 8/26 and the cruise is over on 9/2 and we are not flying home until 9/5. I am thinking of doing the Hilton Riverside via Hotwire for $100 a night pre-cruise and then Staybridge Suites post cruise for $102 a night. That they have free breakfast and a kitchenette seems like a good value. Is that area safe to walk? I know the Hilton connects to a mall and the Riverwalk area, but not sure about Staybridge. Any suggestions on transportation to and from the airport or is Uber the best way to go? Thanks!

You're only two blocks from riverside..and you're on poydras which is one of the safer streets to walk on. That's across the street from mothers restaurant. Check them out for lunch when you're there. I get the debris po boy and jerrys jambalaya. I think uber and taxi are your only transportation options to the airport. Uber is probably cheaper. I know taxi airport to port is $36 for up to two people or $15/per person for 3 or more.

Rare Saint Greg Posted April 3, 2017 #304 Share Posted April 3, 2017 How is Uber from the cruise port? I don't know. I only know the taxi rates because they're on the airport website. I'm a 5 hour drive from the port of New Orleans. I've never been to the airport :D

Rare Saint Greg Posted April 3, 2017 #306 Share Posted April 3, 2017 Thanks for the info. I booked the pre cruise hotel and ended up getting Westin. Is the cruise port still walkable from that hotel? Yeah..it's just a little bit further. Technically you could walk just a little bit further than across the street, enter Hilton riverside, go up the escalator, and enter the riverwalk mall and go just like you were staying at Riverside. See below. Black - Port Blue - mall Yellow - Hilton Red - Westin Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I've never been to the airport :D I was less concerned about the rate and more concerned about the pick up process at the port. I assume with the taxis its first come first serve out of a waiting queue of cabs. With app based rides I wasn't sure how they dealt with the crowd. AZ Karaoke Girl Posted April 12, 2017 #308 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Love post 306 Saint Greg. Very helpful. I won't be going to NOLA until April 2018 so way too premature. I typically like to book my hotels very early like 8-12 months out. I know for Priceline hotels it's best to wait until you are less than 30 days out. Is Hotwire the same way? When would you suggest I start looking at Hotwire for hotels for March 31st 2018?

When would you suggest I start looking at Hotwire for hotels for March 31st 2018? Most of my New Orleans hotels are for Saints games. So the hotels are packed and I'm rarely in a situation where they're looking to fill rooms at the last minute. That said you never know when they're going to have some doctor or lawyer convention and jack prices up. The NFL releases it's schedule next week. As soon as I know my dates I'll start looking. Every date that has a hotel I like under $100, I'll book right away. The others I'll monitor and I really want them booked by the end of summer. I would say if you're 100% on that trip, as soon as you see a great deal, book it. What are your dates? French Quarter Festival is in April. Thanks for all the tips on booking hotwire :) Any clue on what this would be for Dec 29th-31st? 3-star hotel in warehouse district 90% recommended free internet, golf, pool, etc... That's probably a new hotwire hotel. Notice it says (5 reviews) by that 90%. My educated guess would be Courtyard New Orleans Convention Center...And I see the first review on Trip Advisor says the person got it on priceline so it's very possible it's on hotwire now. If you do book it, let us know what you got.

TripAdvisor has 500-1000 with a 4.5 * rating so I feel confident it's going to be a nice place. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
JVilleGal Posted May 17, 2017 #314 Share Posted May 17, 2017 Wow! Saint Greg you are a wealth of information! We are trying to escape Christmas drama this year and have book at NCL sailing Dec 23. Like Hilton properties but how often do you find yourself in New Orleans! We are bringing our adult kids and 12 & 14 yr old grand kids. For my hubby the WW2 Museum is almost the only reason for the trip. In fact we are doing the DDay Beaches with them in May 2018. So loaded question where should we stay :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Any of those hotels would be in a safe area for the kids. Aquarium and Insectarium would be close for the grandkids in case they are interested in that. Easy access to the Riverfront street car line to get to the French Quarter.. The French Quarter is not a bad walk from there either. The city will also be decorated nicely for Christmas. Fulton Street near there also has some nice displays. Enjoy the city and spend a few days exploring.

I've stayed at Hilton Riverside, Embassy Suites, and Hilton Garden Inn (downtown). If you want to be as close as possible to the WW2 museum, Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn (convention center) are only a couple blocks away. They are also right by Fulton parking garage if you're using that for your cruise parking. Christmas Fest will be going on at the convention center. http://nolachristmasfest.com/ Embassy Suites is a couple blocks further and has a great free breakfast as well as free beer/hurricanes for a couple hours at night. Then a couple blocks further than that you have Hilton Riverside which is connected to the riverwalk mall. There's a doubletree on Canal Street. If you want to stay near the St. Charles Streetcar line and take that to WW2, there's a Hilton on St. Charles. That streetcar will take you a couple blocks from the WW2 museum. The Roosevelt is a Hilton property. If you don't stay there you should try to check out their christmas decorations.
drifter42 Posted July 7, 2017 #317 Share Posted July 7, 2017 Bringing the thread back from the dead lol. My wife and I will be on the Dream Oct 1st and will be staying in the Metairie area the night before the cruise. My problem is trying to find a hotel for the 2 nights post cruise. My wife has never been to New Orleans and it's been years since I've been back in my hard partying days. She is interested in the cemeteries, the gardens and mansions. I'm interested in the WW2 muesem, seafood and of course a little craziness of the quarter. A trip to the casino would be great as well. Looking for something that would be convenient to all that by a combination of walking and street car. I know that may be a tall order, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Btw, we will be parking at the Fulton during our cruise if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post. Rare Saint Greg Posted July 7, 2017 #325 Share Posted July 7, 2017 Just trying to figure out what area to be in without doing any driving really until we head home. Staying Oct 8-10 French Quarter, Downtown, CBD, Warehouse District, Garden District. Check out the street car stops as long as you're close to one of those you can pretty much get anywhere you'll want to go. You can buy an unlimited ride pass for $3/day.
