what is YOUR breaking point

I reached my 'breaking point' with Celebrity on my first & ONLY cruise w/them. it was Arrogant staff; particularly the MDR main waiter but it carried over to the guest services desk & even a bit to the cabin steward.

Cruise Celebrity often and never had a problem. Makes me wonder what your complaint was.

As a solo cruiser, I'm already close to my breaking point. As it is, I'm at the point where the price has to justify me going on Carnival instead of a different line. Carnival just isn't a "several hundreds of dollars or thousands of dollars" product for me. I use them for cheap, bargain-basement cruises, and that's about it. If I want a long cruise (more than 7-8 days), I look to NCL, since NCL has studio rooms on several of their ships (and because Carnival requires solo cruisers to put down an $800 deposit for long cruises - which is RIDICULOUS). And even on 7-day cruises to Eastern and Western Caribbean, I've started looking to NCL first. Carnival has to beat the price of a studio on Epic or Getaway for me to bother with them.

Food is a breaking point with me, but it takes a lot to get me to that point. I can tolerate food like I had on the Breeze, where almost everything in the MDR and buffet was almost inedible, but they had good pizza and Indian food, and the steakhouse was delicious. If EVERYTHING was bad, though, I would have to think really, really hard about whether sailing with Carnival was worth it.

My absolute breaking point would be a hot state room. I sleep warm anyway, so a warm room would be absolutely miserable for me. They would either be fixing it, or paying for me to go home. I'm not going to stay on a ship where I can't even sleep comfortably in my own room.

There is only one breaking point for me and that is when I run out of money. I do not look for all the toys on a ship, I am not there for the food, I am there to relax and meet new people and that will never stop no matter which cruise or ship.

I read another thread and it got me thinking. We all have things that we love, miss, hate, and enjoy. What is minor complaints versus your actual breaking point? For me food and service are somewhat important, I hate that they no longer allow smoking on balconies, at least on one side of the ship, and I wish the entertainment was good. But my breaking point is bedding. If the mattresses were no longer super comfortable and Carnival cutback on that then I would be done with Carnival. That would be my breaking point, what is yours? If they did away with smoking on board all together we would also be done. We do other vacations that we also enjoy.

My breaking point was the smoking on balconies. So much so that we quit cruising with Carnival because of it. Now that Carnival has taken care of the problem, we'll be coming back soon. If they bring back smoking which I seriously doubt they will, that would be the final straw for us. I haven't seen any place that's banned smoking bring it back to just appease a few.

Our last Carnival Cruise on The Miracle the food was terrible, and I mean terrible. So bad that I truly doubt we will ever sail on Carnival again. The sad part is everything else was great. I had hoped this was perhaps an isolated incident but tlaking to other friends and family who sailed after us and on different ships this seems to be the norm.

I'm sorry to here that. We quit cruising Carnival several years ago because the food and services were changing a lot. I had heard lately that Carnival was improving in many areas, but I guess food isn't one of those areas. What's worse is the other lower end cruise lines are cutting in those same areas.

For me, my breaking point is no longer feeling like I am getting the vacation that matches what I pay for. Right now, I still pay a heck of a lot less than I do on other cruise lines and I still think I get a great vacation out of it. Last time my only major complaint was that the MDR took longer than I really wanted it to. Is that enough to ruin my vacation? Heck no! We just plan accordingly. But if ever I took a cruise and things piled up enough that I didn't think I was getting my money's worth anymore then maybe I would look elsewhere.

In fact, we cruised Princess. It wasn't that much different. The food quality was a little better in the MDR, but there were a lot of things that reminded me of Carnival.

My breaking point is a truly bad bed. On our Celebrity Equinox cruise, the third bed was a fold out chair with a small thin mattress that was no more than 10 inches off the ground. We won't be sailing again on a Celebrity S class ship.

Food and Service are important but I do understand that they are ever changing, and dependant on the day, time and people involved.

I've had really great servers and room stewards and very lackluster (and one downright bad) servers and stateroom stewards. This has occurred across all lines (with both my best and worst dining room servers being on Disney). One poor showing doesn't really make up my mind about an entire line.

I'm glad to hear someone else loves the beds as much as me! The beds/bedding have seriously been what has kept me from trying other lines. I sleep soooo good on Carnival!

Probably the biggest breaking point would be bad itineraries as that's how we choose our cruises. Besides that and the beds it's all small stuff.

Dealbreakers for me:

Price (no matter what I pay, I must feel like I am getting some value for my money)

Food

Rude staff (we tolerate the 1 or 2 we encounter on almost every cruise, but if most of the staff was rude, bye-bye)

Liberal smoking policy

Ship not clean/well-maintained

My breaking point would be MORE smoking.

I thought and thought about this. The only thing that would be a deal breaker for me is if smoking were banned. I would be done too. Smoking areas are way too limited. The no smoking on the balconies now makes it a deal breaker for me to get a balcony unless only slightly more. Solution there, since about 1/4 of us smoke, have the aft half of so of one of the sides to allow smoking on balconies. Good thing about this policy is that I spend a lot more time out of my cabin and have met so many other folks, in the smoking areas, and some friends who I still communicate with.

We booked our first balcony (aft balcony) over new year's. We aren't complainers ... always making the best of every situation.

But ... being right under the lido, we knew that we would hear noise. We didn't expect 24-7 noises of chairs being moved. :(

Room Comfort to us is very Important - Especially Room Temp. - It has to be cool and comfortable to sleep. On our last cruise on the Conquest the air in our balcony cabin was warm at night. Also smoke odors - I really wish smoking was banned in the casino entirely because it drifts into the floor from that area which permeates your clothes and hair. I don't like smelling like an ashtray and would like to enjoy the bands that are sometimes stationed in front of the casino, but the smoke drives us away.

My breaking point would be if the staff were consistently rude, or even just arrogant, as well as if the ship where dirty, and there were bugs/cockroaches in the staterooms, and also if the stateroom was too warm to sleep in comfortably.

I am pretty easy to please with regard to food, but if they made the mdr a pay for option, then that would also turn me off. Another thing I hate is when ships are divided into areas for the "elite", with their own dining room (Norwegian Haven comes to mind), and other areas for those who pay lower fares. That is one thing I like about Carnival, that everything on board is available to those who wish to use or pay the upcharge for it. I am not against Norwegian, but while I was researching a cruise I was going to take on them, it just irritated me to no end to find out that this or that was only for "haven" people. Reminded me of the old steerage days.

So, consistently rude/arrogant staff, dirty ship, bugs, stateroom temps too warm at night, and class distinction on board, not necessarily in that order;)

My breaking point happened on the Legend in 2003 when the upgrade fairy without my permission, moved us to under the lido deck. It was an 8 night exotic western and after 8 nights of disturbed sleep we were beside ourselves. The chairs scraping, the vacuuming or carpet cleaner, the banging. It was beyond miserable and our trip was ruined. We complained and complained and it didn't help. My DH went up there 3 times in the middle of the night to tell them they were disturbing us and as soon as he got back to the room it started again. It was hell and we went home exhausted. Didn't sail Carnival again for 10 years. Went back in 2013 on the Dream and we were really pleasantly surprised at what a nice time we had. I do have several pet peeves, though. Screaming, running kids and smoke. I HATE SMOKE. I love kids just not the screaming and running.
