What ships offer most space per passenger? Something less crowded than the Star Pr.

What Princess ships have the most space per passenger? Most open and airy; less crowded and less confined 'feel'? We're just back from the Star, and although we had a great time, just too many people. Too crowded. Other suggestions? Thank you.

Right now I think it would be the Island/Coral. 1900 pax

However the Island will have major changes in May. :(

And I imagine the 'major changes' will mean adding more passengers???

Yes enough cabins to add 150-200 additional passengers and the loss of the Universe Lounge and 1/3 of the Promenade deck. :(

Here is a thread on the subject...

Based on their space ratios (gross tonnage / lower berth capacity), the Coral and pre-modification Island are the most spacious, closely followed by the small R-ships (Ocean, Pacific and the former Royal). Next-most-spacious are the Mitsubishi-built Diamond and Sapphire, closely followed by the original Grand-class including the Star and also the Golden. In comparison, the three Sun-class ships, the new Royal and Regal, and the three Crown-class ships (plus similar Caribbean) all have poorer space ratios.

Whether people's individual perceptions of spaciousness correlate well with the calculated space ratios is a matter of frequent debate. We certainly perceived the ships with the best space ratios (the Coral/Island and the R-ships) to be the least crowded. And we find the Crown-class (Crown, Emerald, Ruby) and Caribbean to be especially congested, as expected given their design: same length, breadth and basic layout as the Grand, Golden and Star, but with an entire extra deck of cabins and approx. 500 more pax. However, perceptions vary; some people do not perceive the Crown-class to be more crowded. We have not yet been on the new Royal or Regal. .

Other considerations will frequently override minor differences in space ratios. For example, though the Sun-class (all three now based in Australia) have slightly better space ratios than the Crown-class and Caribbean (the "super Grands"), we would certainly prefer any of the latter four vessels to the Sun-class ships, if the itinerary were the same.

Even though it has more passengers, we found the Royal to be surprisingly uncrowded.

o Much better layout in an expanded buffet with plentiful seating

o No sale tables blocking the main walkways

o Photo gallery away from a main walkway

o Larger atrium

Only time we felt there was a crowd was the crush of people waiting to get into a Bingo session in Princess Live!.
