Norovirus

If you come down with the Norovirus on a Princess ship, how long do they restrict you to your cabin? Also, has anyone received partial compensation for being restricted to your cabin?

Wouldn't you think that Princess would wait until you were fully recovered?

And that is usually 2-4 days from what I have read!

Those are the ships where the reportable cases reached 3% and "update" reports were issued by USPH. Many more ships (nearly all) have a few cases each cruise, and reports are sent to USPH every cruise that has at least one GI reportable case. And more than what is listed above have reached the 2% level where the ship must make a report during a cruise.

The 2% threshold for reporting outbreaks can also be very misleading.

If you happen to be sailing on a 5,000 passenger ship for 7 days, they can have 13 passengers reporting NLV symptoms every day and still not reach the 2% outbreak reporting trigger limit before the cruise ends. There will be no outbreak report filed.

If you happen to be sailing on a 1,200 passenger ship for 30 days, and have only 1 person per day reporting NLV symptoms, the ship must report an official outbreak before the cruise ends.

How about trying some self preventative measures, like buying and using hand sanitizer, a good product that we've used for years is "Germstar noro".

We buy it by the case, of 25 , 2oz. bottles. If you look it up on Google, they also have pen like bottles to carry in your purse or pocket. :D

You are actually better off washing your hands with soap and water. Also don't touch the handrails.

But you are right, anytime you can't get to soap and water hand sanitiser is a great alternative. If only more people were vigilant about hygiene,

Well, I was escorted off the ship this morning at 7 am. Sitting in the airport waiting on a 12:45 pm flight. Princess gave me a letter last night for insurance purposes stating that I was restricted to the cabin. I called the travel insurance company a few minutes ago and was told that they would reimburse me for the days I was restricted to the cabin. This was good news especially after all the negative comments when I asked about compensation. It's not coming from Princess but it may be more than I expected.

I am wondering if the medical staff charged you for any of the visits to the infirmary. I would hope not, but never know.

I was on the first cruise, but thankfully no one in my group got sick. Hope you are feeling better and so sorry that your trip was not what you had planned for.

I think sometimes people forget they signed a contract when they ask these questions about compensation.

"Carrier may without liability for refund, payment, compensation or credit, except as provided herein, disembark or refuse to embark You, confine You in a stateroom, quarantine You, restrain You, change Your accommodations or disembark You at any time if, in the sole opinion of Carrier, the Captain or any doctor, You or any minor or other person in Your care during the Cruise are unfit for any reason for the Cruise, or Your presence might be detrimental to Your health, comfort or safety or that of any other person, or in the judgment of the Captain is advisable for any reason."

Celebrity has the same clause in their contract but they are aware of the impact that noro can have on your vacation by:

a) There is no Medical/doctor fee for treatment/meds of any noro-like symptoms. People are more likely to self report without worrying about a high bill from the Medical Centre

b) When you are confined to your cabin they automatically bring you a special "noro" diet from room service. You are also monitored during quarantine by way of your sea pass card.

c) If you comply with the quarantine, your will be credited a per-diem rate onto your on-board account.

Seems like a good policy to me. Princess should do the same.
