dmwnc1959 Posted March 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) As already mentioned, internet is not free unless you receive this benefit based on having at least Platinum level or higher in your Captain's Circle membership: VOYAGE DURATION-MINUTES 7 days or less - 150 8-20 days - 250 21+ days - 500 Other than that you're looking at buying a package, which can be rather expensive depending on how fast you burn through your minutes. And shipboard connection speeds are nowhere near as fast compared to what you probably have at home. You can prepurchase an internet package through Gifts and Services, or wait and do it once you're on the ship. Here's an example of the cost if you buy it ahead of time… 120 minutes Item #6038 – $72.95 (Includes $69.00 for internet time plan + $3.95. One time activation fee) (Includes 20 bonus minutes for prepurchasing an Internet time package.) 240 minutes Item #6039 – $102.95 (Includes $99.00 for internet time plan + $3.95. One time activation fee) (Includes 40 bonus minutes for prepurchasing an Internet time package.) 460 minutes Item #6302 – $162.95 (Includes $159.00 for internet time plan + $3.95. One time activation fee) (Includes 60 bonus minutes for prepurchasing an Internet time package.) 680 minutes Item #6301 – $202.95 (Includes $199.00 for internet time plan + $3.95. One time activation fee) (Includes 80 bonus minutes for prepurchasing an Internet time package.) 1100 minutes (for World Cruise only) Item #6300 – $252.95 (Includes $249.00 for internet time plan + $3.95. One time activation fee) (Includes 100 bonus minutes for prepurchasing an Internet time package.) http://www.princess.com/learn/cruise-gifts-celebrations/gifts-and-services/ Same goes for being on airplane: most offer in-flight internet packages but at a cost, anywhere between $10-20 based on the length of the flight. You may want to check with your air carrier to get the exact cost. Hope this helps! :D Edited March 1, 2015 by dmwnc1959
JoAnneNYI Posted March 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2015 Many ports of call have free wifi. So she may be able to message friends etc or local starbucks/McDonalds etc. Also depends if she would want to download movies to watch on plane...no need for wifi. Many airports have free wifi. She may use her tablet to take pictures and also write to her friends off line and send at next port etc.
satxdiver Posted March 1, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2015 If you are looking for free WiFi in a port, ask a crew member who just got off with a laptop/tablet in their hands or just follow them. They know where the free WiFi is located. There also may be internet cafe's in the port that charges a much more reasonable price and offers a fast internet connection. The problem with most free WiFi is that it is slow and further slowed by all the people trying to use it.
Mom33 Posted March 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2015 If she wants to keep up with friends and family through email, she can conserve purchased minutes on board the ship by downloading and reading the emails offline. If she wants to text online, she will have to use the minutes carefully so that she doesn't go over her allotment. If she wants to read books or watch a movie she can download them before boarding and can watch them offline. On most aircraft, she can use her pad when they reach altitude, but she cannot get wifi.:)
paddingtonbear Posted March 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) Mom33's advice is good. Give her an Internet package for the ship. Tell her when it runs out that's definitely it, no excuses. Most kids are pretty savvy about downloading limits if you make it clear. Make sure she logs out of the ships Internet when she finishes each session online or she can accidentally chew through minutes. I'd take a tablet (or equivalent) on vacation even if I didn't have wifi access.
