GradUT Posted March 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2015 We are considering a cruise on the Eurodam for July which departs from Copenhagen and the first port of call (the next day) is Kiel. Since we are touring Germany prior to our cruise, we were thinking that we could just take the train to Kiel rather than going to Copenhagen (where the ship will end the cruise as well.) Has anyone done something like this? Can we board the cruise in Kiel? What do we need to do to arrange this? Thanks for any advice.
CruiserBruce Posted March 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2015 The first and most important thing is to get the written approval of HAL.
jtl513 Posted March 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) I would turn the task of arranging this over to our local TA. Or, you could simply contact HAL on the day before or morning of sailing and tell them you've been delayed, you're not going to be able to make it to Copenhagen in time, and you will "catch up" to the ship in Kiel. Take the HAL Platinum Cancellation Protection Plan Coverage, and on the very slim chance that they say no, you can cancel and get a 90% refund. Ine Posted March 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2015 You will need to inform HAL before and get permission to do this. It is possible HAL isnot allowed to pick up passengers in Kiel, since that is in Germany and not in Denmark.
jmkennett Posted March 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2015 A few years ago, we were on the NA, roundtrip out of Venice, to Greece, Turkey, etc. A member of our group could not make the trip until Athens, which was four days after sailing. It was not a big deal. They informed HAL and received back a written confirmation. Once in Athens, she boarded the ship and checked in at the Front Office. Obviously, there may be rules in different countries, but I have a feeling it will not be an issue. Contact HAL.
