jennifer1t Posted March 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2015 Can we just rent the snorkeling stuff on the beach for cheaper. We don't want to go out so far, just stay around the beach.
cb at sea Posted March 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) I haven't seen snorkel equip. for rent, unless you're on a tour....the water is so clear, you really don't even need to put your face in...just bend down and look!!! mrsfuzzmo Posted March 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2015 This will depend on where you will go. I have not heard of a facility to rent snorkel gear on Seven Mile beach, but if you go south (right when you get off the tenders) you can rent gear at Eden Rock Dive Center or Paradise Grill. If you go a little farther south at Sunset House Resort you can rent there too. It's inexpensive to rent at any of these places. If you just want to hang out on Seven Mile beach somewhere, purchase an inexpensive mask and snorkel set and take it with you . We have our own gear from a dive shop and no matter where we go on an island we always have it with us just in case we find a spot to go in and snorkel. Capt_BJ Posted March 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2015 in general you don't find rental snorkel gear on 7 Mile Beach because there is nothing but sand for about 1/2 mile where one finds the reef and 'the wall' starting at a depth of around 50 feet ... not what most would call great snorkeling. Exceptions to the 'only sand' are at the extreme ends where the coral is nipping back in. Eden and Sunset rent gear as the snorkeling (and shore SCUBA diving) is VERY GOOD because the reef comes right up to the shore ... but the shore is not sand beach ... it is Iron Shore .... a combination of old volcanic rock and exposed ancient coral reef So in general, in Cayman one picks sand beach or snorkeling .... or does split time; some of each.
