KarlS Posted March 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) Hi, How are the water levels along the Danube at the moment between Budapest and Passau? Is operating traffic pretty normal? Just curious. We depart from Budapest in two weeks. Thanks! :D ...Karl Edited March 29, 2015 by KarlS
G.M.T. Posted March 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Water levels in Passau are almost back to "normal" after the recent rain, traffic is operating. But two weeks is a life time when it comes to water levels.

HDS Posted March 30, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) Notamermaid recommended this good site in German: http://www.wetteronline.de/pegelstaende?gid=SAC Good graphics, the map gives you the deviation from the mean water level (Flusspegel or Pegel or Pegelstand in the German language), the more green means the more below average, the more red means the more above average. Easy to follow even if you are not fluent in German and the weather icons are, of course, self-explanatory. Edited March 30, 2015 by HDS

matherwood Posted April 10, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2015 Thanks from me too. I had heard from one of my neighbours of a holiday spoilt when they were totally stuck on the Danube because of the level of the river. Their whole holiday was spent on coaches to-ing and froing! Looks like we may pass each other en route, KarlS, as we leave next week on AMAReina . So far I haven't come across any CC members who are doing this trip, but as mentioned on another post, that is not really surprising. Our first river cruise, and we are looking forward to it, and to the lovely itinerary.
KarlS Posted April 19, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Just returned this evening from our wonderful Uniworld Danube river cruise. Danube water levels from Budapest to Passau were perfect (from a passenger's perspective, at least). :D Edited April 19, 2015 by KarlS
Rare jpalbny Posted April 20, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 20, 2015 Glad the water levels were good for your trip. We are taking this itinerary next year. :)
Marigold252 Posted April 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2015 There is an app from Rivercruise.com that shows river levels and has many downloadable maps of river cruise port cities. Definitely worth checking out.

Rare jpalbny Posted April 21, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 21, 2015 JP & Chris - I see you decided on the Danube cruise on the Beatrice for next year, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! I'll probably start a general roll call in a few months (if no one else has) and ask lots of questions there. Right now we are busy planning a fall visit to Germany and Switzerland, so no time to think about this cruise yet. But I did read your review of the Danube cruise, which helped convince me to take it. :)

I actually was hoping you would see my post and do exactly what you did! I'm so impressed with your app I want others to see it. Still haven't booked our Danube cruise, but I check the app periodically to get an idea of the water levels.

I like the river level graphs but I don't know how it relates to navigability. Do you know what the minimum water level is for river cruisers to be able to travel on the river? ingo_e Posted April 30, 2015 #18 Share Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) Jeb: Glad to be of help.. But actually I don't know, some are absolute levels, some are relative levels above minimum, so what I already compiled for the website is a check if the level is rather high (or low) for this month / in general: http://rivercruiseinfo.com/content/river-levels . I am planning to include that in the app later this year, but at the moment I am finishing up a different project Edited April 30, 2015 by ingo_e
jeb_bud Posted April 30, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 30, 2015 Thanks, ingo. I have the app on my iPhone but hadn't looked at the web site. Between the charts on the app, the web site tables and upcoming forum posts from the river I should be able to obsess to my heart's content in the run-up to our August departure.
