Beverage Package Pricing Increase

Recommended Posts

Back to the simple question of date of expiry for the generous offer to upgrade at the old price, please, in Celebrity's post 286..... no mistrust nor bashing, just clarification. Thanks.

If you bought a package, you have till April 20th to upgrade at the pre increase price.

Thanks, Wallie, but that part was clear in the post.... it's how long the offer to upgrade the promos at the old price will be extended which would be helpful. Some people have booked with it into 2016 and beyond and the pick a perk is happening on new bookings now too. I'm interested in clarification for June to use my OBC onboard if we choose to upgrade, but others will be interested for their cruises years ahead.

For sure. "No good deed goes unpunished". The lack of trust is very discouraging.

You've obviously never had the experience of multi trips to Guest Relations to try and receive a perk promised when you booked that has "mysteriously" disappeared.

I have and I suspect the other "non trusters" have as well.

Hence the request for something clear and official in writing from Celebrity that those of us who received 1, 2, 3 as a perk will be able to upgrade the beverage package on board for $11.80 ,no matter if the cruise is in 2015, 2016 or 2017.

And if the "good deed" you refer to is the clarification that Celebrity Cruises made - please keep in mind that the original incorrect post is what started this.

If Celebrity's IT dept. always worked well and clearly ( see example of the weight limit on Alaska flights above) no one would be skeptical.

Hopefully people that cruise after the deadline will come back her to post to let us know what they had to pay for the upgrade. I am cruising May 31 so hopefully will hear how this is working out before I cruise.

The difference between the cost of the 2 packages, is still only $10.00 + the 18% grat. That was cleared up many post ago, and confirmed by the CC Member on ship, that it happened to and was promptly corrected.

The offer to upgrade for $10 instead of $16 was extended to the passengers that BOUGHT the Classic pkg prior to the price increase the first of April.

We dont sail till Nov and are in no way concerned that the $10 upgrade will be anything but that.

I didn't think you could cash out OBC from Celebrity anymore? I'm waiting until I get onboard.

Got off the Equinox last week- had $450 OBC and I cashed in $350 of it in the Casino less the 5%- no issues what so ever- used the balance for gifts for the Grandkids. Charlie

Was that Travel Agent credit (which I know you get back) or Celebrity credit, in which case I don't think you do and what I meant by "from Celebrity".

I had a follow up from Celebrity for my shore excursion query (light plane over Alaska) and the flaky website that only allows me to buy it if I am OVER the maximum weight allowance.

I was told to tick the selection that allowed me to purchase the flights. So now only people who do not meet the weight requirements (over 250 lbs) can book the excursions or people under that weight stating they are over it. I wonder how that is going to play out on excursion day........

Just on board Infinity in San Diego. I explained that because I received the Classic beverage package as part of 123 promotion, I only needed to pay $10 plus gratuity to upgrade to the premium package. The man at the Upgrade Table just smiled and pointed to a piece of paper. Said his instructions were dated today and that we had to pay $16, plus gratuity to upgrade, period.

I guess some ships haven't gotten the memo, or are getting wrong memo.

Will figure this out later, I guess. No time on embarkation day to have this hassle.

Well so much for our assurance by the "official" Celebrity representative. I think I'll make some popcorn and watch the show! :D

Amen! People keep asking for Celbrity to confirm, then ask them to confirm the confirmation, then ask them to confirm the confirmation confirming the confirmation. (I think)

Why laughable Wallie?

Latest posts confirm that we cannot rely on what CC rep has said here in that people on current cruises are being charged $16- per day to upgrade.

What I think is laughable is the way that Celebrity has not put in writing on their website a definitive ruling on what they will charge for the upgrade after April 20th.

Separately, several posts have said that people should upgrade on-line prior to April 20th and get the upgrade at $10- per day + 18%.....

I have tried that in "my Celebrity" for all of the 3 cruises I have booked. I see nowhere that an upgrade can be done and if I try to "Buy" the Premium , I am charged for the full amount which does not take into account that I have the Classic as included. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to upgrade on-line. thanks

We worked with the guest to ensure that they only had to pay the $10 upgrade cost. This also occurred on the day of the change of prices. We sent an additional message to all of our ships to make sure that no other guests would be affected.

Lastly, we work out of the Miami office, and have a pretty good track record on Cruise Critic (to my knowledge).

Celebrity Cruises, I have three X cruises through February. I booked them because of the promotional value which apparently changed between booking and sailing. Since two haven't reached final payment, I may not need to be as loyal?

Can Celebrity be trusted or not?

A good solution for me would be to allow me to use some OBC now to upgrade my beverage package at the old rate. That would make sense to avoid confusion onboard! After all, it is credit for a product of their own onboard so why not. Solve it before we get onboard and have any confusion!

We are sailing on the Millennium in November. Saw this post last night and asked our TA today. He called Celebrity and was told that if we wait to upgrade from the classic package to premium until we are on board, we will have to pay the $16 + gratuity, even though we received the classic package as part of the promotion and booked before April 20. If we upgrade now, we get the old price.

There seems to be so much conflicting information that we are just going to go ahead and upgrade now rather than risk it... the difference is not small change on a 14 night cruise for 2 people.

We'll find something else to use the OBC for, I am sure.

For a 13 night cruise its a lot to upgrade now. I have to wait until I board.

Unfortunate the Celebrity rep was wrong. And that some people scoffed at the idea of having confirmation printed out.

Where's Wally?

Ok, I will leave the thread to all those who ad hear to the chicken little theory that the sky is falling. If it falls in Nov, I will return and eat crow. If it does not who will, oh never mind. There is not a single one here going to cancel, and we all know it. But free booze has a very strong hold I guess.

Well you did say you were confident that those booked with the 123 before the announcement would not pay the extra. That is clearly not the case. Sky is not falling down but that was never the subject of the thread.

And companies who rely on people not to cancel when "things" change might well find that people don't book to start with. The 123 promo was a major reason in a difficult decision between Princess and Celebrity for Alaska.

Ok, you perked my interest, what made it difficult? Was Princess a higher cost with no unlimited booze pkg, or cheaper, but you paid your own way?

Or were they about the same and open bar won out?

We sailed on the Ruby in 2012 and the on ship product was nothing close to the experience for the cost provided by Celebrity. Booze will never be the determining factor in why we book a vacation.
