naagnel55 Posted April 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2015 We are doing a 7 day NCL cruise roundtrip from Rome. We are arriving a day early (Tues 7:35am) and will be staying near city center the night before the cruise leaves on Wed at 7pm. From the airport to the hotel, the hotel to the cruise and the cruise to the airport, is it necessary to pre-arrange for transportation? Can you simply get a taxi at the airport, from the hotel and from the port? If its highly suggested to arrange for transportation beforehand, do you have any suggestions on who to use? CruiserBruce Posted April 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2015 No, it is not necessary to pre-arrange transport. But, in the case of city to port, and port to airport, taxi is about the most expensive way to do it. Airport to city, taxi is a very good way to do it. If you read down the board, there are MANY recommendations, including the wonderful Rome in Limo, with a huge thread, some 2800+ positive recommendations. scottbee Posted April 3, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2015 The distances are fairly large. From downtown Roma to Civitavecchia Port is about 80km (50 miles). A taxi will be €120+ If you're staying near a train station, there's frequent and inexpensive transport from FCO-Termini and Termini-Civitavecchia (€15 and €5 respectively IIRC)

Ive used RomeCabs twice and will use them again in September. Very reliable and the nice thing is you can book and prepay far in advance.

I agree with taxi from the airport into the city - last summer, our flights luggage was slow, slow and arranged drivers usually will only wait for one Hour. You can walk right out and get a taxi for the same price. We've used Bob's as well for to/from the port and they are not only affordable but from the ship to airport or back to city early and waiting for you. We are using them again in June. mickeysgal Posted April 9, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2015 But how many people do cabs fit? We are a family of 4. Are there cabs at the airport that can handle 4 passengers plus luggage?
ROCruiser Posted April 9, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 9, 2015 We've used different private transfers in Italy and in March we tried airportstaxitransfer for the very first time. I was a little worried because there were not a lot of info I could find about them and their quote was quite a bit lower than the others. Nice van, nice driver, dependable. I would definitely use them again.
