We are considering taking this Princess tour when we are on a Med. cruise in June. We have been to Rome before and may consider avoiding the usual crowds.

Has anyone been to Lake Bracciano and the Wine tasting tour?

All advice appreciated.

Didn't do Princess tour but rented a car (short walk from port gate) and enjoyed the easy ride to the interesting town, tour of castle, and ride around the lovely lake. Very good day.

We also did the castle and lake tour privately while on the Regal TA in October. Really enjoyed it had lunch in a small village at the top of a mountain. And it made a change from driving all the way to rome. It was with Rome in limo tours I believe

We took the Princess tour to Lago di Bracciano & wine tasting and enjoyed it.

Like you we've previously visited Rome several times & the tour was a relaxing alternative for us. We had never travelled the area & enjoyed a visit to the small town of Anguillara on the lake. If you've watched the Everybody Lives Raymond series, Anguillara was where they stayed with famiglia & went to the Gelateria. If not you could watch the 2 part show on YouTube...it was one of my favorite episodes & enjoyed seeing Italy again.

The wine tasting was the last stop on the way back to the ship & was different than tours we've had in Tuscany. As I recall the winery (cannot recmember the name) was not at the tasting room which was more like a banquet room with tables & chairs to sit. They had self serve prosciutto, cheese and bread and counters for the wine...and of course wine for purchase.

Another alternative to Rome is going to the hilltop town of Orvieto.

We went on an independent tour to Orvieto and the beautiful small hilltop town of Civita di Bagnoregio...it's like an island in the sky. If you search for Civita di Bagnoregio you'll see that the walk there is rather steep & was difficult for some on our independent tour.

We did this excursion last year and enjoyed it.

Pros:

Lake Bracciano was gorgeous

Photo opp stop for the castle

Quality, yet affordable wine

Delicious food served

Cons:

Only 30 min at Lake Bracciano; way too short!

Lonnnnnnnnnnnng windy drive between the lake and winery; the bus encountered a problem road and had to turn around and go all the way back
