Were visiting Key west next February for the first time, Has anyone rented an

electric car or scooter or is everything within walking distance ?

Were in port for six hours ,We would like to visit the southern most point etc..

You are in for a real treat loved the brilliance. esp Key West. Took the conch train royal had discount coupon in their daily paper the day before. Very educational plus you can hop off and on went to the southmost point. You will enjoy. :)

What's in walking distance depends on where you are docked. Here is a link to the cruise ship schedule.

If you are at Pier B, which is the best spot, almost everything is within walking distance. If you are at Outer Mole (OM), you'll have to ride the trolley into town.

KW is only about 4+ miles long.....you'll have plenty of time to do everything in 6 hours!

You'll have plenty of time to explore the island. We rented a golf cart, but wished we had rented scooters. We paid a lot of meters to stop and grab lunch, shop, etc. There were lots of "scooter parking only" spots with no meters around.

 

Plus, my DHs long legs bumped the lights which drained out batteries without our knowledge. THe gold cart died just in sight of the places on the way to return it. DH had to push it across the street!!!

 

But then again, that's our luck...every golf cart we've ever rented has broken, died, or run out of gas...lol KW was our last time EVER renting a golf cart, but that's completely on us!!!

We were just there on Brilliance last Sunday & rented an electric car...it was ok...but we were docked at the Outer Mole & by the time we got off the ship, on the trolley & then picked up by the car rental place it didn't leave much time to explore...plus it was hot & crowded with 3 ships in port..dodging people on bicycles & scooters...not something I would do again...

Was there on Brilliance last year. Was going to rent an electric car but we had 3 ships in port and it took way to much time to get there. We walked around. Key West is mall enough to just walk. Or walk for a bit then go to get the conch train. Do not do the conch train from the ship you will waste an hour standing in line. The train gets very crowded with all the ships in port, after the first hour there is no line.

We rented bicycles (in advance). They were nice beach cruisers (big seats). good condition. We rode all over. Its very flat, so pretty easy riding. The cemetery is a place to visit also on the bikes. It was a bit of a walk over to the get them. If I recall (it was a couple of years ago), they did drop us off. But the bottom line is no, its not all walkable.

If pre-purchased, the tickets for adults are $27.41, or $24.57 for Seniors or Military. They also offer some packages if you want to see some attractions.

It was much cheaper than that on Royal 19 or 20 only. Our tour guide was great 3 generation Floridan. Midwestern college grad. I hope you get him.:)

We did the HOHO trolley and it was wonderful. We had plenty to time to do whatever we wanted (Hemingway house, lighthouse, butterfly museum/garden, lunch, frozen Key Lime Pie on sticks, southernmost point etc) It was nice cause we didn't have to worry about navigating the streets ourselves, knowing where to go or how to best get around. Would highly recommend it.

Scooters sound like fun ! If you watch the Sloppy Joes web cam there's always

a scooter buzzing by.
