Question about bathrooms on NCL?

Recommended Posts

Please don't ridicule me lol. I remember a big brouhaha when one of new NCL ships came out - I think the Epic but I am not sure - because the bathrooms were pretty much clear / see-through?

Do all of the newer Norwegian ships have bathrooms like this? Or just one ship? If so, which one?

I have avoided NCL for years because of this. Like I said, don't ridicule me, we all have our hang ups and I own it lol.

Ha, Ha. I looked all over for a bathroom like this on Epic after hearing the story. I think it was only a Men's room perhaps? I told my DH to be on the lookout for it, but he never found it. All the ladies rooms were very private.

If this is a hang up, don't book the Hilton in Athens. The bathrooms are constructed with frosted glass. It was fine as I was traveling with my husband and we like our privacy to a degree--but the frosted glass satisfied it. Had I been traveling with my son or a friend it wouldn't have been comfortable.

A few other places to beware are the Rio in Las Vegas where you can see from the bedroom into the shower through a window, and Hotel 1000 where there is only a frosted glass shower enclosure. The entire wall between the bathroom and bedroom is clear glass, although it does change to semi-private opaque with the touch of a button.

We were on the Epic and did not care for the Bathroom situation. The doors are frosted glass and are right at the cabin door. So if Room Steward comes to the door and DH is in the bathroom it is a little uncomfortable for the DH (happened). I was grateful that the ventilation system worked very well. Liked the ship but not the cabin as well as the other ships. Epic had the best entertainment, bad location for the Casino as the smoke wafted up to other decks and despite all of the air purifiers did not smell good.

That being said, if the price was right, I would go back on the ship but only share a cabin with someone I was "really" comfortable with.

I think OP is talking about the bathrooms in the cabins. The fact that the Epic has the shower on one side and the bathrooms on the other side....and they are kinda/sorta see through.

You are right! Which NCL ship is it that has a public bathroom with windows to the outside that can be seen into from other ships in port? Someone posted a picture on the Internet, I think of men standing at urinals, which was taken from another ship in port. It was then reposted here on CC. There was a big thing about it. I don't know why, but that's where my mind went this am.:o. Guess it's time for coffee!

There were many complaints about the design on board the Epic (the lack of privacy regarding stateroom bathrooms, the rounded design of the beds making them to short if your height was more than 6 feet - unless they were laying in the middle of the bed, the promenade deck being "blocked in" by lifeboats, etc.). They (NCL) learned their lesson, and made certain that the design was changed for the Breakaway and the Getaway.

For us as a married couple, the bathroom "situation" on the Epic was not a problem, but for somebody who prefer more privacy in the bathroom - the Epic might not be the right choice... See photo below, that shows the WC and the shower with frosted doors, and the sink is "out in the open" on the left side of the shower.

I read the post where somebody said something about a public bathroom with windows to the outside, and that made me remember the beautiful Haven Suite we had on the Gem some years ago - the bathroom was fantastic!!! But as you can see from the attached photos, both the bathtub and the shower had large windows - the window in the shower was from floor to almost ceiling. There were some "dropdown curtains" you could pull down, if you wanted to block the view, but honestly - I didn't care at all. I loved having a shower with that magnificent view, and didn't care if we were in port. We were up on deck 14, so if somebody saw me enjoying my shower, I would look like a "miniature from a distance". No way anybody could see me clearly - not from the ground and not from a "neighbouring" ship, without using their binoculars. And if somebody wanted to watch me through their binoculars while I had my shower, I honestly couldn't care less. The way I see it, the "peepers" are the ones with a problem, and not me.... :p

I think that would be fantastic, especially as they had drop down curtains for times when privacy was warranted.

Thank you everyone!

I appreciate everyone's input...and yeah no way in hell will I ever book the Epic!!

Just for your information, the Studio cabins had a solid door for the 'head' so there is no problem getting that 'problem' taken care of if you want a room of your own. :D

We loved the Epic, loved the split bathroom, and the sink, wish all ships were the same set up. Of course we both work in medicine and feel body parts and function are normal, lol.

Which is fine if it's just the two of you. However, if the two of you were traveling with your 15 year old son and your 17 year old daughter.......?
