JOJO351969 Posted May 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Has anyone see whales from off the ship on the way in to Grand Turk or leaving? We have a balcony and will be there during migration in 2016.

metairiegal Posted October 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2015 I tried to find out from different websites today and came across this: "Each winter, the majestic humpback whale makes Grand Turk its home. North Atlantic Humpback whales are seen in the area from late January through early April." Since we are in December, we might be too early to see them. OCruisers Posted October 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2015 We have been to Grand Turk many times and have never seen any whales.
imluvncruzn Posted October 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2015 We usually cruise every January and have been to Grand Turk several times. A few years back one of the guys in our group went on a snorkeling tour and they saw a humpback from the snorkel boat. That same year a few people saw them from a distance while on the ship. OCruisers Posted November 10, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 10, 2015 I would love to find a whale watching tour going this Christmas. Any ideas? Ships offer "Whale Watching Excursions" in Dominica. :) LuLu
sail7seas Posted November 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 24, 2015 We've always had a verandah and have visited Grand Turk a number of times but never saw any whales either when sailing in or out.
joyful34 Posted January 1, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 1, 2016 We have seen whales two different times while pulling into Grand Turk. Both cruises were at the end of January. Be on deck well before you reach the island.
Rare mitsugirly Posted January 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 2, 2016 We went this past April and I kept my eyes open cruising in and out and didn't see anything. :( We were probably too late to see the migration. We will be going again this year at the end of March-April and I'm keeping my fingers crossed again. :) I do know local companies offer tours to do the whale watching, but they are extremely expensive (around $189 pp I believe). Click.Write.Post. Posted January 3, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Has anyone see whales from off the ship on the way in to Grand Turk or leaving? We have a balcony and will be there during migration in 2016. I've only been to Grand Turk once, in early December 2010 on the ms Eurodam and from the back of the ship as we were sailing away from Grand Turk, I saw one lone humpback. bumbles Posted January 15, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 15, 2016 Yes, we were sailing away from Grand Turk in late February and while sitting on our balcony mid afternoon (the ship left GT at 2 pm) saw a whale in the distance breaching a few times - then we'd lose sight of it and find it again when it would blow out its blowhole. It was neat to see.
Twintowngirl Posted January 23, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 23, 2016 We were in Grand Turk in mid February last year and saw whales. Once we were off the ship we could see their tales from the beach too. Fun to see them!
mirglip69 Posted February 13, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 13, 2016 Was in GT in February 2014 and saw whales from the snorkel boat on the way to the reef. Very Cool!!
