Can I Just Get to a Beach?

We went to Belize years ago and made the mistake of not booking an excursion.

We are go on your own people and in Cozumel and Roatan had no problem doing that.

We just want to get to a beach! Any recommendations.

Without an excursion to one of the cayes, the nearest mainland beach is Cucumber Beach. It's about a 15-20 minute taxi ride from the tender pier. It's on a manmade lagoon and used primarily by locals. Google "Old Belize City" for pictures and details on facilities.

Like the OP, I just want a beach....not an overcrowded saltwater pond.:D

Anyone know of a beach I can do on my own close to the cruise port?

Short answer is that there aren't any. You need an excursion out to one of the Cays.

Goff's Caye is probably the most popular beach option. Just a small island out in the water. You can usually book a trip there for somewhere around $40 to $50 per person depending on the vendor you go with.

If that's out of your price range, then your best bet may be to mark Belize up as a non-beach day. Get your sun and sand at Cozumel and Roatan, and find something else to do at Belize. My wife and I did absolutely nothing in Belize this past trip, didn't even leave the tourism village. Still enjoyed ourselves. Grabbed a drink at one of the local bars and just admired the view.

If you go to Cucumber beach I suggest don't use the slide. It's dangerous and the water is shallow end of the slide. I tore the skin off both heels on that slide and could barely walk. Thought I broke my feet. Just a cautionary warning. Happened on my third time down the slide. All was good until then.
