Royal Caribbean orders fourth Quantum Class Ship!

Recommended Posts

RCI is holding the following names for future ships. They currently will need one for Oasis 4 and another for Quantum 4.

Ovation was a long held name when it was chosen and the names remaining from that group are :

•Pulse of the Seas

•Passion of the Seas

Harmony was added in the group of names trademarked just prior to her naming and that group now includes:

•Spectrum of the Seas

•Joy of the Seas

•Emblem of the Seas

•Apex of the Seas

Bleh, they really should recycle names

Passion of the Seas.

Doesn't fit the Quantum class brand really, Passion is similar to "Allure" and "Oasis" and "Harmony" (though Harmony doesn't 100% fit)

Then maybe they will go with the other one in that group: Pulse.

Interesting, it surprises me that they ordered a fourth one.

Why? they have a lot of ships to replace in the coming years. Splendour & Majesty leaving next year, and it will be a matter of time before the rest of the Vision Class follows!

I'm gonna go on a limb and predict a fifth ship ordered sometime next year for a 2020 delivery date.

Bigger capacity. Get rid of the smaller ships and replace them with the bigger ships and you have more overall capacity.

Currently Royal Caribbean brand has a capacity of a ~68,000 passengers, by the time all currently ordered ships are complete and those announced are sold, the capacity will be ~85,000.

If you then work out that each passenger is worth $2500 and each ship does 52 cruises a year (that's not a fact, it's just a base point) that alone is a near 2 billion revenue increase.

The rumor mill has RCL going ahead with building Mein Schiff 7 and 8 at Meyer Turku, but it is unclear if TUI will take delivery or not. They are also not sure if they will unload the former Celebrity Mercury and Galaxy on CTRIP of China. They are now the Mein Schiff 1 and 2.

These new-builds fit RCI well as they have the same basic design and are even built with a form of Dynamic Dining where they have a 'Classic' venue on the bottom level and then 2 other complementary venues on the level above.

Those ships are due out in 2018 and 2019 and the option was taken without any details last September, so that is why there is speculation.
