In-room coffee makers on Pearl

My husband and I leave for Alaska on the Pearl on Sunday. We have a mini-suite, which comes with a coffee pot, from what I've read. My husband loves his small-batch specialty coffee and has a subscription for 2 monthly deliveries from around the world. He is planning on pre-grinding enough for the cruise and bringing it with us.

Do you know if the coffee makers have filters? What kind of coffee is provided with them (in bags or pods, etc??) Will he even be able to use his own fresh-ground?

Assuming they are the same as always, they are the Mr. Coffee 4 cup type coffee maker. The coffee provided is similar to the hotel room type packets. It ok but not great. No filters are provided. I take some 4 cup filters and some of my preferred coffee with me.

I've never read this tip on the boards, but for folks traveling in staterooms with the typical drip-type coffee maker I would recommend bringing some coffee machine cleaner/de-scaler product and run it through with some plain waiter as well as wipe down and clean the coffee maker itself. There's some liquid cleaners, but it may be easier to bring the powder type that can be mixed with water. I seriously doubt these coffee makers have been cleaned or regularly de-scaled. As for the basket or any parts where the coffee drips from, bring some extra cue tips to get to any tough corners or tight areas.

For all I know the ship's water may be fine and is not prone to leaving scale, but no one wants to taste the residue of stale coffee brewed several cruises ago, especially if you plan to bring higher quality coffee on-board for your room.

Isn't someone sailing on the Pearl now & still posting live with their unlimited satellite WiFi internet from the ship - might want to double check with them to see what is being used for the balconies, which I thought was the same as the regular suite - getting the single cup sized coffee maker with the pod filter ??

Like here - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64025118/2015%20NCL%20BA/IMG20150322_2141%20%281024x768%29.jpg

4 cup paper filter & coffee grinds would then be a no go - or, if, all they give you is a hot water kettle, like this one - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64025118/NCL%20Cruising%20-%20General/SDC8083.JPG

Oceanview and Inside staterooms have not been getting a coffee maker or water kettle for years now, but as noted by others - let your Stateroom Steward know & request one, hopefully they should be able to get you one - and, without a convenience fee or daily surcharge, given this regime's mindset. :D
