Rare albingirl Posted May 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2015 The day is almost over, but we can pause still. My Dad served in WWII in the Pacific, in the Navy, and I woke up thinking about him. Dear God, bless those who served.
rkacruiser Posted May 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Indeed! I still mourn a fine young man who lost his life in Viet Nam who was seated next to me in both semesters of our Freshman Chemistry class in college. We suffered through the rigors of that class and were friends throughout our college career. He had joined Air Force ROTC, so upon graduation, he went to serve. Rest in Peace, Skip! ithaca gal Posted May 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 26, 2015 My father served in England and France during WWII, in the 728th Railway Operating Battalion. Thanks to all who made the ultimate sacrifice.
sapper1 Posted May 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Here is a link to a news item about the now annual service held in Halifax on the U.S. Memorial Day in memory of the U.S. Forces from the War of 1812 who are buried there. The long forgotten burial place was brought to light several years ago when a proposed development was halted when it was realised the graves were there. http://globalnews.ca/news/2015539/ceremony-pays-tribute-to-americans-who-died-in-halifax-during-war-of-1812/
sail7seas Posted May 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2015 My Dad served in WWII and my Dear Husband served in Viet Nam. I went to the cemetery yesterday to be sure flags had been placed for them. I was content to see they had been honored.
