Warning skimming Cozumel

While visting Cozumel april 2015, our visa pas was skimmed as we draw money of the ATM. A month later someone tried to draw money from our account in South Korea. We were skimmed at the ATM in the port of Cozumel. Be aware.

I never ever use my cards while in any port just for this reason. It has been posted many times over the years of this happening. Cash only for me.

Be curious to know which pier you docked at. Princess usually docks at Puerta Maya, but can dock downtown. I've seen several reports of skimming at the ATM in the International Pier recently.

 

Best way to get cash is onboard the ship at the purser or guest services desk. Some ships have ways you can get cash off your ship board id through the casino, but it's a bit complicated. Even a ship board ATM could be used. Otherwise, if open, go to a local bank (not a cambio) and go to the teller window, not the ATM. it's probably going to add to your taxi fares, but that's chump change to the damage skimming can cause.

After a similar bad experience, we now only use ATMs at banks. So far so good.

Thanks for the warning but as the others have pointed out, skimmers are everywhere.
