The Christmas ornaments are also a big hit in our house. We used to buy rum balls from the ship shop but they don't sell them anymore. We loves them! In Mexico I always find some sorta piece of silver. If labadee is a port then some sorta hand carved wood. Maybe even just new salad tongs. Ok I know I am breaking the rules so please don't yell lol I take a Windjammer mug [emoji12]. Pictures pictures pictures. Oh and you hardly see them anymore but the colorful shooter glasses in the MDR(yes I pay for it) I have a nice little collection and on the Christmas holidays I have a house full of family I love to pour an after dinner shot and have everyone admire them[emoji267]

We are building a fleet of ship magnets for our refrigerator of each ship we've been on. We also collect magnets from land or sea for anywhere new that we go.

For years, I have also collected souvenir spoons from every new country and some significant cities I've visited (and Disneyworld :p) I have quite a collection, and my husband will eventually make a display for me.

One of my fav souvenirs is a sample pack of Lily Bermuda perfume from Bermuda. I am still working my way through all the scents and each time I wear it I am reminded of Bermuda. I bought it in a shop at the Clock Tower Mall in Kings Wharf.

For each new ship we're on and each new port we visit, a refrigerator magnet and a couple of postcards. The magnets end up on our fridge or upright freezer holding the cards we got. However, at each new port we also get an extra card, write on it what we did there that day and our impressions of the area, then try to find a place to buy a stamp and mail the card to ourselves. It often takes weeks or even months for the card to finally arrive, and when it does it brings back memories of the trip, plus we now have a postmarked stamp as an additional souvenir (and occasionaly an interesting story of the adventure trying to find a stamp at some of these ports :)).

My favorite things are some of the logo stuff you can win playing trivia etc on the ship, we also do the Christmas stuff and I like getting t-shirts/tank tops from the islands since I live in these all summer long

When I was cruising I took pictures (profiles taken from shore) of the ships I went on. I have 15 of the photos enlarged and framed. They are hanging on my dining room wall and everyone who comes into the house stops to look at them and comment about the photos and the cruises that they have taken or would like to take.

Casino Chip!!!! What a great idea. Wish I had started doing this early on. That would make a nice framed souvenir (eventually) with a chip from every casino we've gambled in :( where were you 20 years ago when I need this idea??

lol

I accidentally took home a $50 chip from FOTS. But I made sure to bring it back with me when I last sailed Oasis.

I collect shot glasses - but now I've got far too many. my daughter collects keychains. My son collects wood carvings.

Probably the neatest thing we've bought was something we found several years ago on the occasion of our 30th anniversary. We were in Grand Cayman, and we stopped by the first jewelry store by the tender pier and looked at shipwreck coins, as we were thinking this could be a neat anniversary gift to give each other. They were expen$$ive! Like about $500 each for a coin made into a pendant. So we passed and walked on down the street…

We happened on a small local shop called Artifacts. This little shop had lots of neat small antique items, including salvage from ship wrecks, plus a large collection of shipwreck coins. We found matching Spanish one real silver coins made into simple pendants for $220 and $240. (one coin weighed a bit more than the other, so the diff in price is due to the silver, either in the coin or the pendant setting) Our coins were salvaged from the wreck of the Santa Maria de la Consolacion, which went down in 1681 near Santa Clara Island, off the coast of Chile. Each came with a certificate describing the coin and signed by the salvage diver.

DH wears his on a silver chain, and I put mine on a chain made with tiny pearls. We've really enjoyed them, and we've had lots of people comment on them and ask about them.

We have totally bought our share of local souvenir type stuff and Christmas ornaments at many ports, but we both agree that our shipwreck coins are the best purchase from all of our cruises. (Well…DH says he is somewhat torn…he got some Johnny Walker Blue in St Martin a few years ago for $85/bottle…but since that's long gone I maintain it doesn't count.:p)

Judy

That sounds wonderful, would you mind sharing a picture of yours? I would like to see how you have it set in pearls :)

Most of the stuff they sell is junk. Try very hard to be discriminating or just avoid shopping areas altogether. If you avoid the shopping areas, you will still be able to buy souvenirs at the beach in most cases. We're big on doing things as opposed to shopping, so we'd rather go snorkeling or kayaking or do just about anything other than shopping.

The absolute best thing I have bought on any cruise in the Caribbean are beach towels with the name of each island or port on them. We have a pool and swim a lot, so these are useful and it's fun to pull a clean towel from the shelf and see the name of a port we have visited. It brings up some great memories!

The best thing I bought on a Med cruise was the Italian pottery I bought in Positano and Sorrento. I had saved up for it and found a pattern I liked, bought a lot of it quickly in two different stores and had it all shipped to my house in the US. It took 6 weeks, but arrived in perfect condition. I use it frequently and always remember the fabulous day visiting Pompeii and then driving on the Amalfi Coast highway to Positano and Sorrento.

We keep it simple -- I have the ships' cards from every cruise we've been on. For now, we just keep ours in a box. But, I've heard lots of creative ideas for them, from hanging them in a frame, to turning them into magnets.

Our favorite souvenir to date is batik clothing from St. Kitts. We visited the production site, saw a presentation on how they hand 'paint' the fabric, and then DH chose a shirt and I chose a complementing dress. They are worn in the warmer days here at home and always draw comments from others.

We buy a small homeware/ornaments that are not tacky or has the port emblazoned across it. So we have painted shot glasses from cabo, a small mat from Panama, a nesting doll from St Petersburg etc.

Food & Kitchen gadgets. Pot holders, towels, cooking pots. Latest thing is a flat Italian stovetop toaster.

One thing I didn't buy, though it was tempting, was a two foot long immersion heater (like the ones for mugs only bigger) for a huge pot.

Find lots of fun things in the local markets.

Jewellery, length of fabric or sarong to use as a BBQ tablecloth, wind chimes. I also get a key ring with something memorable eg boomerang for our Aus cruise and attach it to the USB which HSS all the photo's and journal for the trip. This year we also bought several large wooden hanging parrots from Brazil which are now hanging under our roof top pergola... The neighbours thought they were real when they first saw them :-)
