Wow, Just back from my 1st 3 day!

I can now see why I read a lot of 1st time cruisers that say they will never cruise again after they have only experienced one of these. I was more like a college spring break weekend!

We did 2 B2B 4 and 3day on the Inspiration May 11-17th and 5-25 thru 6-7 there were boobs, fights and the dining room was more like a frat party at times. All in all a good time was being had by all, but there was a few out of control moments.

I could see if I had young family or maybe a older and just was trying out cruising on a 3 day to see if I like it, I would think that maybe cruising may not be for me. Both 4 day cruises were pretty calm, just the 3 day ones were crazy.

Do those cruises when school's in session. Then they are like Holland America cruises, lol.

We sailed many, many 3&4 day cruises out of LA. And several HAL cruises as well.

...Yup, I agree about the three day/weekend cruises. Living here in South Florida, it's real popular for the 20-something crowd to work a half day on Friday, cruise/party throughout the weekend, then drag themselves to work Monday morning right from the pier.

...We have done a couple of these Friday to Monday cruises and, although definitely not for the young families or the Senior crowd, we've never witnessed a fight or even a shoving match. Vast majority of these cruisers are single, looking to "hook up" for the weekend. Many spend the whole weekend in the Casino. But, as OP said, definitely a "good time was being had by all".

We had 2 fights one in the dining room and one in the Disco. More shoving and vocal, Carnival employees where very quick to separate everyone.

Had one guy that got back on the ship as we were drifting away only had one rope left on and the aft of the ship was already away from the dock a few feet.

Don't get me wrong I had a good time I am just saying I can see how a cruise like this can and does scare some 1st timers.

that sounds like fun :D

and, i have to be the first to wonder about whether what you chose as your screen name, 'GROUCHPUSS', may temper your comments or perception. LOL :)

seriously, though, yes, there's a reason why they call the short 3 day cruises, especially over weekends, 'booze cruises' and such.

as you said, 'a good time was being had by all' - it just seems that's not for you! and there's nothing wrong with that! you've learned something ;)

I never said I had a bad time. We had 4 off the best cruises we have ever had.

I said that I can see why a lot of people that do a 3 day cruise for the 1st cruise and are just seeing if cruising is for them might gets scared off from cruising and say cruising is not for them. It is all over CC how people hated there 1st cruise because it was to wild and crazy for them and you read a little farther and it was a 3day they were on.

Been on the 3 day and the 4 day..thinking about doing a back to back. ..how does carnival handle the transition from one cruise to the other? Do have to get off the boat and if so for how long.

They can be quite exhausting. I would only do it again if the price was right.

Try other cruise lines for 3 days. Carnival lost control years ago on short cruises.

I feel the same way when people do a 2 day CTN just to see if they would like cruising. Having been on a CTN, I am so glad this was not my first experience and deal breaker for any future cruises or it may have very well have been my last.

IMHO:)

I didn't know anything about cruises to nowhere when I first started cruising. Glad I didn't. Might have been inclined to book one and used that as the wrong set of norms. We're going on our first CTN next year. By then, it'll be our 9th cruise.

I always recomend someone does a longer, at least 5-6 day cruise. We only do 7 days, once was 6 day but that's all that was offered.

I had been looking at doing backtoback get get longer than 7 days but it's just going to be a party ship, than that's not a good fit for us.

I'd love a longer CTN, like 7 days. :D Kid and husband would get restless though.

I agree. Unfortunately the short cruises draw the "party" crowd. The longer cruises of 7 days or more offer a better experience. Just my opinion.

I've done a few of the 4-day and thought they were pretty mild, almost boring :(. But in April I took my first 3-day to Ensenada and had the time of my life. I totally seen the difference between the weekday vs weekend cruises. There were many bachelor/bachelorette parties on board and it was never boring. I took this one hoping for a true "booze cruise" experience and I got it and loved every minute!

The only thing that really bothered me was that there was a LOT of little kids who were unattended because their parents were indulging in the "party". You seriously couldn't get in a hot tub on the Lido deck because it was full of little ones. I'm talking maybe 5-7 years old with no adult to be seen.

Three day cruises are very different. Different clientele, different atmosphere, different cruise.

very well then, i may have inferred that from your initial posting, but certainly wan't passing judgment! like i said, sounds like a fun time to me :)

i'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, and having clarified, entirely understand what you mean. yes, they are definitely a 'horse of a different color' :)

Well, enjoying everyone's comments. I have the 2 & 3 day cruises booked out of Galveston next year in March & Dec. We are OLD people but plan on having a good time. Have not done one this short before but easy to get away for that period of time.

Our 1st cruise was a CCL 3-day and we loved it. Then again, it was our first vacation away from the kids, a couple of years after the birth of our youngest (of 4). We would have enjoyed ANYTHING! It did get us hooked on cruising, though.

Since then, we've only done mostly 7+ days, and one 5-day, excluding a 3-day I took my mom on and one that I treated my eldest daughter to upon completion of her masters degree.

3-day is a horse of a different color, for sure, though still enjoyable. But I'm pretty sure it IS where CCL got the reputation for being a "party barge"!

...Bad advice and not true. Have a friend that really enjoys these weekend getaways about once every other month. Recently cruised Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas on a Friday afternoon from Miami. Came back and told me that the people on the Majesty were "Professional Partiers" and were more hard core that on Carnival. Cruise line has nothing to do with it.

Age is just a number :). I'm 46 but when I showed my youngest daughter (21) pictures from the 3-day booze cruise, she said I looked like I was on Spring Break! It was a great time!
