Sun Princess Dress Code

Apart from some long voyages in the 60s and a cruise in the 70s, we have only recently returned to 'life on the ocean waves'.

In the past 2 years we have enjoyed voyages on Queen Elizabeth and on Queen Mary 2. We are booked for a 10 day cruise on Sun Princess from Brisbane to New Caledonia and Vanuatu in August.

On Cunard, we really enjoyed dressing up for formal nights and formal balls. Princess say there are 2 formal nights for our voyage, and Princess Dress Code calls for tuxedos/diner jackets, long formal dresses etc.

However, before packing the tux and long evening dressers, I checked out the Cruise Critic Review on this site ( http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=63 )

which states "Casual dress is the rule. The ship's newsletter suggests attire for the evening. On a week-long cruise, there are generally two "formal" nights, but most passengers do not wear black tie, suit or long dress".

 

I would appreciate some comment from anyone who has traveled on Sun Princess from Brisbane recently.

You wont see many tuxes and ball gown more suit and tie and ladies equivalent, nice dress, pants suit etc.

 

Though there will be some dressed less formally.

 

In my experience about

 

80% suit and tie

10% Tux

10% informal

 

On a "Formal Night"

Most men wear a suit or jacket with a tie. There are very few tuxedos.

Ladies now wear more cocktail dresses or dress slacks with fancy tops.

We were on a similar Sun Princess cruise this past Feb.

 

First of all, I can tell you that the food we had was some of the very best food that we have ever had on a cruise ship. In terms of both preparation, variety, and quality. In both the MDR and the Horizon.

 

We did not attend formal evenings in the MDR since we do not travel with these clothes. However, our tablemates kept asking us to attend and said that there would be no issue in not having a long sleeve dress shirt, tie, or jacket and than many others were dressed in this fashion. We never did attend but this is what they told us.

 

The other plus was on board pricing. The currency was AUD. We did an RCI cruise a month later. The on board prices were higher and they were in USD. A cocktail that was priced at $10. AUD on the SUN was priced at $14USD on RCI Voyager....that is about $16 AUD. Needless to say we buy any at that price. Wine was priced in the same manner.
