Mrs. H. Posted June 11, 2015 #76 Share Posted June 11, 2015 I did hit nicely many years ago on the brand new Triumph. No sooner did the lights go on in the casino (1 1/2 hours or so after we pulled out of NYC) I was playing the penny machine Strike It Rich and had mistakenly hit max and hit big for just under $400. :D Great way to start a cruise!! :p

Mrs. H. Posted June 11, 2015 #78 Share Posted June 11, 2015 .... after which you cashed out and left the casino? :D Congratulations. Of course while I was waiting for them to get me my money, I HAD to play the machine on both sides of my winner. lol Whenever Mr. H. wins, he goes straight to the front desk and puts the winnings on our bill this way less to hit the charge card when cruise is over. Only problem is when I see hubby going to cash his cupS out, I go from quarter machine to dollar machine. lol Why is it the ones that don't want to play or are bored by slots, wins?!

peg013 Posted June 11, 2015 #82 Share Posted June 11, 2015 So what happens if you're non us citizen with winnings? How do we pay tax and to who?!? Would all depend on whether or not your Country taxes you on gambling winnings on a cruise ship.

tempus137 Posted October 10, 2015 #86 Share Posted October 10, 2015 To clear up the professional vs amateur question, an amateur gambler can only use his losses up to the amount of his winnings, so if his regular income is $50k, and his gambling winnings are $10K, he has a total income of $60k. If he has $20k in gambling losses, he can only deduct $10K, so his taxable income is $50k. A professional gambler uses his losses as an expense to offset income. So if his total winnings are $10k but his losses are $20k, he can show a net loss of $10k for his business (gambling). If the loss is larger than his income, he can carry it over to the next year. tempus137 Posted October 10, 2015 #87 Share Posted October 10, 2015 On NCL, my biggest winning was at a name that tune contest, where I ended up with two of every type of freebie handout they had (coffee cups, water bottles, playing cards, etc.). On a RCL cruise, I won $400 in a poker tournament (only 4 people had entered), along with a golf shirt. Later that night, I won a raffle and got a Mexican hat and serape, plus a cheap watch. lamchops Posted October 10, 2015 #89 Share Posted October 10, 2015 8 of my previous cruises have had "Blackjack" tournaments and I have been lucky enough to win 3 of them. The prize was $500us each time. I say lucky because I haven't played more than 10 hands of blackjack on any cruise or casino in 30+ years.

calmpets Posted October 10, 2015 #93 Share Posted October 10, 2015 I saw someone win $1100 on the candy bar slots. Unfortunately it was about two pulls after I had gotten up from the same machine. I got almost to the end of the aisle before I heard screaming and turned around. Note to self - never turn around for screaming in the vicinity of a slot machine you've just left! vermilch Posted October 10, 2015 #94 Share Posted October 10, 2015 On a trip to Alaska we decided to put all our winnings from the casino aside and use it to pay the gratuities. My biggest win was about $150 but we did accumulate enough to make our room steward happy. Other than that I won $50 on Deal or No Deal.
missintuitive Posted October 10, 2015 #95 Share Posted October 10, 2015 The $1200 win generating a W-2G is on slot machines. For table games it is figured differently, based on the payout multipliier. Must be at least 300-1 for some table games. Example: At Let It Ride I won $5000 on a straight flush with all three of my five dollar bets out. But the W-2G was only for $2000 on the optional bet since the other three bets had a payout of only 200-1 whereas the optional dollar bet was 2000-1 for a straight flush. I love Let It Ride! Congratulations on your Straight Flush! In all the years I've played (mainly on vacations) i've never seen that hand. I have seen a few 4 of a kinds (including one I won on carnival) but never a straight or royal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mandy412 Posted October 11, 2015 #96 Share Posted October 11, 2015 Sort of a stupid funny story... On my Spirit cruise I momentarily thought I'd won a free cruise. I decided to play my hand at Bingo on the last day, having never played before. I bought a few cards, and scrambled to keep up. Apparently it was a version called Blackout, or something like that. I didn't know what that meant. I just thought Bingo meant 5 in a row or whatever. When I had a full row in the B column, I jumped up and yelled, "Bingo!!" and danced and jumped up and down, thinking I'd won a free cruise. I was quickly corrected by the caller, and for some reason my mistake pissed off the rest of the room. I started to continue playing, but a woman told me I wasn't allowed to play anymore since I'd made a false claim. The caller supported her, so I pitched my tickets and left. I'm four months late on this but I'm laughing so loud just knowing how competitive people are win bingo. It's too cutthroat for me.
stampincrazyinTX Posted October 11, 2015 #97 Share Posted October 11, 2015 I won $3200 on a Quick Hit penny machine on the Jewel last year. Best cruise casino staff on that ship!
JoshPSU Posted October 11, 2015 #98 Share Posted October 11, 2015 Here was the best thing I won. The lady who sold me the ticket gave me a huge hug - she got a prize herself for selling the winning ticket. This was 2006...

LTM1967 Posted October 12, 2015 #100 Share Posted October 12, 2015 $1,000.00 on "The Vault". Took about 15 tries. I now know those are not really games of skill like they would like you to think and probably won't play them in the future.
