MITSUGIRLYS DAWN TO BERMUDA NOVEL (or review as some may call it)

Ok, no I double checked and I have them right. (Whew).

I went back and looked too. You definitely have them right. Then I looked at the NCL website compared to your photos and then I did a little research. Cagney's on the Dawn used to be called Black Angus. La Cucina was originally called La Trattoria (trying to do fancy Italian - which people were raving about in 2006 and that restaurant didn't even have a surcharge!)

Your theory may be right. It's just an odd piece to have in there to me. Anything you need to hang up whether it be long or short can be hung on the upper rail. Waste of money they could have used to make my "cooler" an actual refrigerator and colder. Just saying... :D

Glad to hear you won on the Getaway. Where were you at to give that tip out prior to me being on the Getaway? LOL I love tips on slots. :p

We sailed the Getaway after you were on the Getaway unfortunately - just last month.

Hey, Kim! Nice to "see" you on a review again! I got through the first day of your review and had to stop to post something that I remembered. Bobby was the cruise director on our November Sun cruise. I wasn't too impressed, but it was probably because we weren't too interested in a lot of activities on that cruise, so we didn't see him often.

We'll be on the Dawn out of Boston in September, and am considering the hotel you stayed in pre-cruise. Could you recommend it? Can you tell me if you happened to see if wine was available at the grocery store you went to for your pop? Hope they sell it there so we don't have to search for a wine store.

Enjoying the review, now on to day 2!

Exactly. I'm glad someone else noticed it. I remember when I mentioned the hump from the Star cruise (which had several other humps) people on here pretty much told me I was crazy and there was not hump. It became a game with me and the hubby every time we passed it and we would play it off like we were drunk when we stumbled on it. I know damn well there was a carpet hump there and others just must have not noticed it. I believe I even had a pictures and people still said it didn't exist. Being the person I am and taking the pictures I do, I notice EVERYTHING!

We had a 'hump' on the Getaway...can't tell you how many times I almost tripped!

They are definitely there!!

Hi,

Unfortunately that store does not sell liquor/beer/wine. However, there is a liquor store close by but it's a little tricky to get there. You can ask at the front desk and they will give you walking directions. As an alternatve to Subway and the restaurant near the bowling complex, you'll pass a place called Lambert's Rainbow Fruit on the way to the liquor store. They make fabulous sandwiches that are huge and the cost is very reasonable. You can pick up snacks there as well.

Thanks for joining me. I hope you enjoy the review and thanks for the comments. I would love to do the BA to Bermuda some time....If only they'd have the KSF promo for that ship I'd do it! :D

I totally believe you. They were everywhere...and I commented that to my husband. It was kinda funny after seeing so many. LOL

I got ksf for the September 13 sailing. Large balcony for super inexpensive

I am really enjoying all the pictures of the Dawn. We have been on her 3 times and will be coming out of cruise retirement next August to sail on her again. We last were on a cruise in August 2012, which was also on the Dawn. We have not been on the newer ships yet, the Gem and Pearl are the newest for us so far. But, like you, I will accomplish cruising on all of the NCL fleet!

Looking forward to reading more about your cruise and Bermuda. We have been there 6 times and have always loved it there.

You must really like the Dawn to have sailed her that many times ;) or either you are located close to a port she's in all the time. :p

Glad to hear you are coming out of cruise retirement. How exciting. Good luck on accomplishing all of the fleet. It's been hard work for me and now that I'm down to the final wire, it's getting very hard to find ones that we haven't been on yet that works for our schedule when we want to cruise and going where we want to go. That's why I'm glad we have found another similar cruise line that fits our needs as well.

Glad to have you with me on this review and thanks for the comments. :)

I always travel with 40 wire hangers from the dry cleaners. They take up no space in my suitcase. They fit in the outer zip pocket. I hang all of mine and hubby's clothes and use the shelves for my kids. I can't stand using their hangers that don't come off the hook, it's very annoying. Plus five hangers is not enough. So I pack my own.

We normally only hang up our dress clothes we take (which is usually only 2-3 outfits each) so thank goodness we don't require more hangers. However, you can always ask the room steward for more and they will bring them.

I hate those hangers too. I would much rather prefer ones that came off the rod easier.

This time was the first time that we had so many hangers (as in the picture). We had 20 hangers when we entered the room. It makes me wonder if the person before us had requested more hangers and they just didn't take them out during cleaning or something because that's not normal in any of the other rooms I have been in.

Yea, I had to look up some other pictures on the web to verify as well. It looks like they must have just changed the carpet some time along the way because some of the other pictures I found had a different carpet so it took a little comparison views by looking at the same pictures on the walls to make sure it was the same place. :p

Hi Wendy!! So glad to see you here. Are you actually able to type now with your wrist? Hope you are doing well and I miss the ma'ams. Hopefully we can do a reunion some day in the future.

Ohhhhh, Bobby was on the Sun in November then? Ok, I knew he was on one of my recent cruises and Sam also thought it was the GA as well. I'll have to let him know we were wrong. :p I wasn't too impressed either that time around and he's pretty much still the same with the jokes and stuff but he is super nice and friendly to everyone. I seen him a lot more on this cruise than the last. He was always out at the events and talking to everyone on the ship.

Is it the Dawn out of Boston that you guys are doing the Canada/New England cruise?

Yes, I would recommend the hotel. It served our purpose and we liked that we could walk to the places we needed to go to. The only downfall is that there's just not many places around to actually eat at....well, there's Dunkin Donuts :D. But there's the Subway and the bowling alley and that's pretty much it. Our shuttle driver did tell us there's some type of deli (I think he mentioned it might be in the grocery store or some place???) but he said they had good food. Nothing fancy around there to eat at within walking distance though. The only other downfall for us is there wasn't a pool and that's just for entertaining the kids for the day.

I honestly don't know about the wine since we went in, got our pop, and back out the door we went.

We had a 'hump' on the Getaway...can't tell you how many times I almost tripped!

They are definitely there!!

So glad there's other "hump" noticing people out there. I swear people made me feel like I had lost my mind back when I mentioned it before. :p

WALKWAY OUTSIDE OF LE BISTRO

This was a long hallway/walkway just outside of Le Bistro with windows looking in to the restaurant. It was very pretty.

The Star had the same walkway and the Star had this HUMP in the carpet. I called it the tripping hump. I'm here to tell ya that the Dawn has that same carpet hump. LOL

We were on the Dawn last October, sandwiched between a hurricane and a tropical storm and Gatsby's was my favorite indoor place to hang out with my Kindle and a frozen mudslide. Love looking at these photos. (Also funny... my "hates having his photo taken" DH actually posed for a photo in one of those "walkway" window seats. *Also* a nice place to chill out and read!!) ;)

We were passengers on the Dawn's inaugural cruise from NY in May, 2003 (she cruised from Miami for the first six months of her career), so I'm familiar with how she was originally configured.

When the Dawn was built it didn't have a separate Italian restaurant...at dinner they would curtain off a section of the buffet's dining table area...as I recall it was forward on the port side of the buffet, and use that as the Italian venue. After a few years they converted the space you're looking at into the Italian restaurant but left the decor as it was. It was originally a third main dining room called Impressions, which more or less explains the decor.

I don't ever recall the steakhouse on the Dawn being called Black Angus...as far as I recall it was Cagney's on our first Dawn cruise in May, 2003, so if it was ever the case it had to be for the ship's first 6 months or less.

You are correct, the steak restaurant was not called Black Angus, it was originally called The Steak House according to this person who previewed the ship in her maiden year:

http://www.cruiseman.com/norwegiandawn.htm

I guess I mistook Black Angus being highlighted in some article as the name of the restaurant when it was actually the type of steak being served. It is interesting the description of La Trattoria sounds more like La Cucina, but it doesn't look at all like that on the Dawn.

When you figure out what this shelf is for, you'll solve one of the great mysteries of life.

Thanks for another great review!

That's the man's side of the closet. He hangs his shirts on the top rod and his pants on the bottom. If you don't have hangers that work for it, ask your room steward. We usually bring our own. It can also be used to hang ties. :D

Yea, see that's our problem. My daughter goes back to school on Aug 26th so taking a cruise a few weeks after she starts back to school is kinda out of the question and that's when the prices always drop. I don't mind taking her out around the end of October or November because she's been there for awhile, but September is just a little too early for her. But who knows, things change. :p

It looks like you were staying in Dorchester, close to the Naponset Bridge. There's a 24 hour bowling alley not to far from there. Next time you're in town you should check it out. It's mostly candle pin, which is a regional favorite, but they do offer ten pin as well. Great arcade there too.

We just got back from the Breakaway Bermuda run and I thought about you while we were there. Can't wait to relive Bermuda through your eyes!

Aww, thanks for thinking of me. Glad to have you here with my review. Thanks for the comments. :)

They are nice windows to sit at and watch the waves. I never stay still long enough to just sit there and read or watch the waves for long. However, I do like the ships that have the casinos with the slots right beside the windows. It's kinda calming...especially if I'm losing money. :D

We're doing the Breakaway in November (Florida, Bahamas, and Great Stirrup Cay) and that week the schools are closed for Veterans Day, so our daughter will only miss 4 days instead of 5. Come to NYC and cruise with us! ;)

Thanks for joining me in this review and glad to have you. I hope it helps get them excited for their cruise. :)

How neat to hear the original history from someone that was on the ship when she first set sail. Thanks for the info horse. :)

I still can't imagine this working. I know when I hung up my husbands button down shirts on the rack above the hung down too far for you to be able to access any pants that would be hanging on this contraption. It would cause the clothes (shirts) on the rack up above to be folded over the shelf part and would wrinkle. I only know this because that's what was happening when I hung our clothes up, which is why I ended up pushing that little shelf up. :p (Not doubting that you are correct in this statement, just saying I wouldn't want to do it because it would still create a problem when trying to hang things. LOL)
