Disney Cruise to Alaska

When is the best time of year to cruise to Alaska on DCL?

Disney only sails Alaska from late May to mid August. Alaskan cruises rarely are available earlier than May or later than September from any cruise line.

We went last year on another line-their last of the season on August 19. They said it was the best weather of all of the cruises. Earlier in the summer there is more rain than later apparently. We're doing Disney to Alaska next summer and have chosen the latest date we could because of kids starting back to school, so we're doing end of July.

No cruise line that I'm aware of visits Alaska other than in the summer.

 

We cruised the second to last cruise of the summer--again, reports of best weather all season, saw lots of wild life.

When is the best time of year to cruise to Alaska on DCL?

 

You want most chance of sun, most daylight, salmon run, wildlife. Believe it or not depending on what your priority is you'll get different times from May thru late September.

 

I caution that you take any poster's comment of great sunny weather or the promise of wildlife sightings. It ain't indoor, its a temperate rain forest, nor a zoo, the wildlife is wild and both weather and animals are unpredictable.

 

BTW Disney sales the most limited schedule and the least attractive scenic cruising. yes it is Disney, no is it the best option for Alaska IMHO :D

I assume the ferry runs year round... it looks like a cruise ship.

Guess we lucked out in as well (several years ago). Some "mist" but virtually no rain in August.

My Alaska cruises were June 4-11, 2007; July 25-August 1, 2008; May 23-30, 2009; and August 5-19, 2011. It rained some on every cruise, but the best weather for us was in early June.

We've done 2 Alaskan cruises: 18-25 Sep and 3-10 June. The weather was pretty much the same for both - mid to high 60s and drizzles in Glacier Bay and Juneau. Only difference was September had less daylight.
