Tahiti - Pacific Princess or Windstar Wind Spirit??

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

We are looking to book a honeymoon cruise in November to Tahiti and are debating on cruise lines... essentially Windstar vs Princess. Never been on either, and never to Tahiti. Open to other options as well but these seem to be the only ones with dates that work. I like the intimacy of the Wind Spirit and the back dock to water sport, etc. but afraid it might feel too small and no balconies. Princess seems a little more roomy, but with 670 people feels like it may be too big and get crowded at the destinations. Looking for a casual luxury liner. Any advice, good or bad, from either from any cruise vets. I'm a rookie, two large ship (party) cruises in my 20's and my partner has never been. Thanks in advance!

We love Windstar -- it's perfect for a honeymoon cruise. When undecided between two lines, I've always found it helpful to check out youtube.

Here are some links. The first is a Windstar promo video. The others are made by Windstar guests.

You'll experience private shore events, local entertainers, deck parties where the staff loosens up and has a great time along with the guests.

I think I've talked myself into our next Windstar cruise :)

VERY different cruise lines ......we've done both.

Princess as you know is bigger boat. AND still maintains a bit of the old style cruising customs like formal nites etc. If you want to relive "the LOVE BOAT" type of sailing, Princess is a good choice ....

WINDSTAR, much more laid back but don't think Carnival ... this is a premium line and the folks who spend the bucks expect to get their money's worth. NO crowds ... no assigned tables for dining. When last we went all tips were included in the price and as mentioned, being smaller they often go into places the big cruisers can't. We've even had port calls where everyone rode to the beach in their zodiak's and the ship provided a beach bar service! But a TINY casino, limited entertainment, a pool the size of a postage stamp as as you note, no balcony option.

Of the two - we prefer WINDSTAR but that's because we like that 'style' of cruising ... smaller boat, no crowds, less regimented day . . . in the old days they were also VERY SCUBA friendly running their own dive trips . . .

I believe WINDSTAR still has an 'open bridge' you are invited to visit at (almost) any time ... try to visit the bridge on most cruise ships and you will get a cold "no way"!

We've sailed both. Windstar would win for me hands down. It's romantic, intimate and has the most fantastic crew. You will be treated special being on your honeymoon. You can't go wrong with Windstar. Don't worry about the room not having a balcony. The public space on the Wind Spirit affords plenty of privacy if wanted. Nothing beats sitting up front of the bridge under the stars in the evening. A delight!

Wow, thanks to all for the great feedback!! Looks like Windstar is the crowd favorite! This is much appreciated. Fantastic advice.

Since this is a cruise website, I'm assuming you all still agree the cruise option is better than the land option? (Thats been our latest debate.)
