lilkrz Posted July 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2015 What is the current Taxi situation in NYC port. I was there once and we had to cross the street to get a taxi but on the next trip we were directed to the top deck where they were giving out tickets to wait for taxi service. Which is normal taxi service at the NY port?
Budget Queen Posted July 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2015 both are available. You can run into extremely long waits, so, get car service if you are on a time crunch. Waiting across the street, there usually is also a line, but, people will jump ahead of you, by moving up the street. I'm cheap- and use the 42 bus. :)
spidybabe Posted July 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 1, 2015 Either But we either take train or car service. If you use a car service they can pick you up upstairs by the yellow cabs. Safe sailing

pizzalady1 Posted July 1, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2015 In 2012 we had a 50 minute wait for a taxi at the port taxi line--they gave out tickets. However, around 9-9:15am, the taxis started rolling in. We really should have stayed on board a little longer, or cross the street which was much quicker. Charlie4 Posted July 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2015 there is always a long line of empty taxis up stairs waiting. Sometimes they tell you, you must cross the street, but my hubby picks me up, at the upper level, I just wait for an elevator.
CoachT Posted July 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2015 I use Groundlink to get to the airport or I use Uber when I get off the ship and walk up to the next pier for the Enterprise.

Rare mking8288 Posted July 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2015 The only thing "normal" about taxi availability at the Manhattan (NYC) Cruise Terminal is that it is unpredictable due to factors far beyond NCL's control - port security, # of ships in port (1, 2 or 3, and, infrequent - possibly 4 ships docking/visiting) If your ship is back early & you get to disembark early doing all luggage on YOUR own, you might be able to head upstairs to level 2 & get into the taxi line to wait. Otherwise, we've mostly gone across the Avenue for the taxi and to meet our car service - our private pickup has been able to drive up & fetch us. Given the layout & logistics, even if there're 50 empty taxis waiting & ready to pickup pax & luggage, there would still be a line & wait for getting into one - and the backup is sometimes at the traffic lights on the Avenue & coming off the ramp upstairs to head downtown, uptown & across town, etc. Patience is a virture - we let them "transport" our heavier rollers into the terminal, we enjoy our MDR breakfast with a shortened menu (always like that with NCL) and relax, and watch the lines snaking around the corners & on the stairs, etc. - until it's our turn to do priority disembark with our color, and, once we cleared CBP & head for the exit - we worry about going home - car service/taxi is usually no more than a 15 to 20 minutes wait, regardless ... once waited 90 minutes for our nephew to come for us in their family mini-van. joyy7403 Posted July 1, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 1, 2015 I love Groundlink also. It's a relaxing ride to the port with great drivers. Very reasonably priced also.
