Tour Guides tips

Recommended Posts

I don't do percentages for tours...If it's a good tour, with a personable guide, we'll tip about $10-20 for the 2 of us. If it's nothing but transportation to a place where we "do our own thing", we don't tip for that at all.

We tip percentages for food/beverage service...that's about it!

With 50 person buses booked through Royal Caribbean, we usually tip according to the suggestions at Princess.com. Probably a little more. Sometimes, we've tipped then wished we hadn't. For example, in Bruges one tour guide disappeared mid excursion and the other walked so fast she almost lost me. We do better if the guide gives individual assistance, such as offering to take pictures (assuming it's not already written in the description).

If it's a private tour like Pedicab, we tip MUCH BETTER.

To keep denominations easy, here is what I have been doing. Obviously if we have exceptional service we will do more.

Tour guide $5 per person

transportation $1 or 2$ pp

Waiter $2 pp

Bar tender/drink waiter $1 every trip to the bar (we both drink soda)
