Alaska cruise and land tour

We are looking at booking an Alaska Cruise with Land Tour for July 2016. It will be our first cruise with Princess, having cruised with RCCL and Celebrity so far. We plan on doing the 7 night cruise and 5 night land tour.

We would appreciate any advice on the land section as we can't decide if one itinerary is any better than another? Also, is the Connoisseur or the Denali Explorer more preferable? Star, Island or Coral Princess are the 3 ship choices and all look very nice but not sure if one is better than another. Thanks for any thoughts :)

We're doing our first land tour in June. We chose the connoisseur tour and my wife chose the June 23 tour date with 5 days on land and then we sail to Vancouver June 29 - July 6. She wanted the maximum daylight and seems to have chosen the maximum pricing date.

We chose the connoisseur because we didn't want to mess with things ourselves. Most meals and multiple excursions are included.

There's an excellent description of the connoisseur tour located HERE

We are sailing the Island and it will be interesting to see how the major changes affect the ship. We've never sailed on Island but will be sailing on Coral in September so the difference due to the changes will be extremely easy to compare. I would much rather we were sailing on Coral though as she isn't being hacked up like the Island.

If time and funds permit, book the longest Connoisseur tour. We did and it was much better than the short tours we had taken before. Also know that the land tour is much more tiring than the cruise so you may want to do the tour before the cruise. You will like any of those Princess ships but I would prefer the Coral.
