Question About the Miracle...Help Please!...

We are sailing on the Miracle Christmas week and have two days in Cabo. I noticed on my itinerary that you have to be back on the ship by 6pm even though we are in Cabo overnight. However, I've read a review of the Miracle where they stayed overnight in Puerto Vallarta and they were able to stay in town all night into the next morning. Why is it different in Cabo? Does anyone know? The DH and I are cruising with our DS (20) and his friend (21) and I know they will want to party at the clubs in town as they did during their spring break when they were there.

If anyone has sailed on the Miracle and stayed in a hotel overnight instead of going back on the ship...would you mind sharing where you stayed, if it was close to the ship, and approximately how much it was for the room?

Thanks for any responses.:D

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I would imagine it's because Cabo is a tender port, and in PV you dock overnight. It would be no fun if you spent the night off the ship and then couldn't get back on due to the tenders not running because of weather or high waves!

We sailed on the Miracle on that route last year and loved it! Still my favorite class of ships that Carnival has sailing currently. Oh, and we also sailed the route with Cabo overnight and so did not stay off overnight. Hopefully you'll get some more responses to help!

Hi Mousey :)

I agree with the other members in regards to Cabo being a tender port.

That said, I also wonder if passengers are not allowed to stay overnight due to ('maybe', I'm not entirely certain) because often, cruise ships lift anchor & maneuver offshore to open casinos.. Then re-tender in the morning.

Hopefully another member can confirm that.

Have a great day!

:)

I am not sure you are "not allowed" to stay in Cabo overnight? It is just more iffy because the ship actually leaves port and sails around the local area. It does not remain tendered in place overnight. It comes back and tenders again the for the next day.

The problem that might occur would be if the ship was for some reason unable to return that 2nd day. Then you'd be on land and would have no way to return to your home.

If Puerto Vallarta the ship remains at the dock overnight so there is no problem to get back onto it in the morning.

I am sailing on the Miracle on 10/3, and we do not stay in Cabo overnight. We are in PV from noon, until three the next day. I hope this helps.

Hi Riffatsea :)

I believe you hit the nail on the head. I agree..

I was just thinking the same thing.

This is my understanding as well.

Thank you for all your responses. It's what I love about Cruise Critic. Nice, generous people on here.

I agree with all of you and don't think I'll allow the guys to stay overnight. I was thinking of it as they've been there many times over the years but it's just not a great idea at all I've decided given all your advice. I didn't consider that the ship moved around and didn't stay anchored in one place.

Again, thanks to everyone!!!:D

We sailed the Miracle this past April and enjoyed our vacation immensely.....hope you have just as awesome a time as we did!!

Thank you so much!

Thanks to everyone for your input.:D

We were going to get two rooms, one for the DH and me and one for the DS and his friend but we won't be doing that now. I just can't risk that the ship might not be able to come back into port and we can't get back on.

As a family we've been to Cabo many, many times as the SIL has a timeshare their and we've cruised there twice before. The DS was just there this past spring break and partied with his fraternity brothers so it's not like he's missing out on something he's never done before. He can part there again next spring break. I also don't get why they have to make the last tender at 6p. Maybe it has something to do with the Cabo port authority or some such thing. I don't know. But this isn't going to ruin our trip at all because as I've said, "Been there, done that." LOL!;)

They can't open the casino and shops until the tenders are in and they move out a bit.

That makes sense except that they tender in PV overnight on another itinerary and don't worry about the casino and shops there so I don't think that's the reason although it could be part of it.

PV isn't a tender port, they can actually dock there. I can imagine that tendering at night in the dark isn't very safe. Possibly one reason they don't do it.

Also the tidal currents there are brutal.

OP if you do decide to stay onshore overnight, let the ship know and also have the flight schedule to PV or back to Long Beach. Need passports for the flights home. Obviously bring those onshore with you.

We've taken several cruises to Cabo-La Paz and pax stayed overnight in Cabo and met the ship in La Paz.

We spent the night in Cabo San Lucas a couple of years ago. When we boarded, we went to guest services and they took a copy of our passports.

We stayed at Melia on Medano Beach (pricey, but it was an anniversary night)

That evening, we watched our ship sailaway and spent a very nice evening in town.

The next morning, we were very glad to see it return when the harbor opened.

It was fun to do once, but I don't think we would repeat.

We visited Cabo recently on the Norwegian Star, and we overnighted in the bay with tenders running all night long.

We've pretty much decided we're not going to stay overnight in Cabo. Just not worth the risk and as I mentioned above we've "been there, done that." There's nothing new for us in Cabo but we love it there very much.

Thanks for all the responses.

That must be something very new, as the harbor has been closed at night in the past. As I recall, something like 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Did you guys have a back up plan in case the ship didn't return the next morning? I really want to do it but I'm afraid that all night long I would be thinking and worried about the ship not being able to return.

We probably would have stayed in Cabo for the remainder of the week and flown back to LAX. The other choice would have been to fly to the next port. Puerto Vallarta in our case.

The other thing is that Cabo was pretty quiet the night we were there. Not what we expected.

I'm cruising with the DS (20) and his BFF (21). There's never a dull moment with those two. They'd find some action in Cabo at night believe me. LOL!

If it weren't for the fact that they were just there with their fraternity during spring break and that we have personally spent a lot of time in Cabo...I might chance getting a couple of rooms overnight. But I just can't chance missing the ship in case of any problems. Also, I just figured out that the night we would be in Cabo is the DH's and my 30th Wedding Anniversary and I'd rather spend the evening in the Steakhouse having a relaxing dinner than on shore in Cabo worrying about missing the ship. So I've made reservations and they've been accepted. It's all good!;)

Thanks to everyone for their input!:)
