Av8tor Posted August 19, 2015 #26 Share Posted August 19, 2015 My TA couldn't do that on her computer. I did know, through Cruise Critic to be wary about an upgrade. She has said that as I'm in the highest available Disabled Accessible Stateroom-Window Suite on the Golden Princess, and no other Full Suite meets my need for a Handicapped Accessible bathroom so don't worry! You might need a better TA if she doesn't know how to mark a booking "No Upgrade"!!!!
calteacher Posted August 19, 2015 #27 Share Posted August 19, 2015 I'm a newbie to Princess as have sailed often on HAL. Sorry to be ignorant. But what is MUTS? Thanks.

She has said that as I'm in the highest available Disabled Accessible Stateroom-Window Suite on the Golden Princess, and no other Full Suite meets my need for a Handicapped Accessible bathroom so don't worry! Have already had 1 fright with Princess cancelling the original cruise "for Operational Reasons" but I was given AUD$55 in On Board Credit; found another cruise for AUD$35 LESS than the original price AND with an additional day aboard, so REALLY happy with the change. It's warmer weather for me. A friend said, "It was meant to be!" We did contact Princess Cruises about my need for a Handicapped Accessible Stateroom, so Princess is fully aware of my requirements. If a TA books through Princess agent booking engine then of course it can be marked NO upgrade. Perhaps she just does not know how to do it. I have watched my TA make my booking and she asked me Any upgrade, Meta upgrade or no upgrade? when she got to that area of the site. It is just a matter of checking a box. RocketMan275 Posted August 19, 2015 #31 Share Posted August 19, 2015 There have been reports of people who did mark their reservations "Do Not Upgrade" being 'upgraded'. It is no guarantee that Princess will not upgrade you. It is more of a request not to do so.
cruznon Posted August 19, 2015 Author #32 Share Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) I agree-- a window, even an obstructed view, is better than an inside. However, in this case the casino and bar were directly under that cabin. I have heard that can be very noisy. Once you have had a bad ( noisy) cabin, you are very particular about location. I was glad I saw the email this morning and was able to change back to my original cabin. Edited August 19, 2015 by cruznon
traveling1969 Posted August 19, 2015 #33 Share Posted August 19, 2015 It's a Meta Upgrade, not Mega. Code is NUM for your TA. You cannot see it or change it yourself.Thank you for clearing that up.:) Harry

Fortunately it happens very, very rarely. Unfortunately, you gave your consent already in the Passage Contract.

And, I hope you do, but, as I said, there have been numerous posters report that Princess has changed their cabin even when they selected No Upgrades. If you read the cruise contract, they can do pretty much anything they wish.
Working 2 Cruise Posted August 20, 2015 #38 Share Posted August 20, 2015 You won't have to worry about upgrades very soon. Princess is going to stop giving free upgrades in the very near future. Rather, they'll be offering upsells.

If you read the cruise contract, they can do pretty much anything they wish. And sometimes it's done on the whim of whoever is doing bookings. We called to take advantage of a sale last week and we were told that we had to move because the the sale only was for certain parts of the ship. Our friends who were in the room next to us called to get the deal and didn't have to move. Our friends called after us and got the sale without having to move. We called, complained, and got our room back. The person said she didn't know why we were told that we had to move.

At that point princess isn't losing anything, and are potentially turning people into return customers.
Working 2 Cruise Posted August 20, 2015 #42 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Do you have an official source for this or is this your speculation? At that point princess isn't losing anything, and are potentially turning people into return customers. I'm sure the corporate office has thought long and hard about it... the word is no more free upgrades unless under exceptional circumstances... that makes a lot of sense. Through upsells, Princess (and the other cruise lines under the Carnival Corp. umbrella) can make a lot more money than with free upgrades. Also, if I understood correctly, upsells won't be too expensive, so passengers feel that they're getting a good deal.
shredie Posted August 20, 2015 #44 Share Posted August 20, 2015 With "upgrades," they get to move people around at will to suit their needs, and they don't have to wait for permission. With an "upsell" every time, they would hamper their ability to rearrange things to their advantage by having to wait for a confirmation from the passenger. I can see implementing upsells for meta upgrade situations but not for the routine moving of someone from an inside in the front of the ship to an inside midship (which would be a technical upgrade.) Jules59 Posted August 20, 2015 #45 Share Posted August 20, 2015 My husband and I have a favorite cabin on the Grand Class ships. We always book it every other year and have our TA mark it No UP Grade. So far it has worked very well. It's a mini suite and our fav. Hope things never change. lovevacadays Posted August 20, 2015 #46 Share Posted August 20, 2015 does princess upgrade solo travellers?? Yes. The only two upgrades I have received were when I was traveling solo. One from a balcony cabin to a mini suite and one from an obstructed cabin to an ocean view cabin. I was very happy in both cases. :):):)

SoCal Cruiser78 Posted August 20, 2015 #48 Share Posted August 20, 2015 I wonder how the upsell-instead-of-upgrade policy will affect guarantees? Will guarantee passengers now be less likely to get a higher category than booked? Or will it just depend on how many "bite" for upsell calls on a given cruise? Working 2 Cruise Posted August 20, 2015 #50 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Guarantees would get a cabin equal to what they booked or higher, within the category. Shredie is right though... Upgrades within the category booked could still happen... but for an ocean view to balcony.... upsell.
