deck chair Posted August 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2015 Hello Thinking of booking one of the new single cabins on QE on 2 deck. My chief concern is how quiet those cabins are AND if you can hear noise from the casino nearby. Also, if the shower stalls are the same size (Hoping larger) as standard double cabins. Your help most appreciated. Thank you. Deck Chair

Deck Chair From what I've seen of pricing on several cruises I booked, the single cabins are more expensive than booking a regular cabin with the single supplement. Check the pricing of regular ocean views and balcony cabins, and compare this to the single cabin pricing before you book.

Yoshikitty Posted August 30, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2015 In my opinion, Cunard does prefer 2 people in standard cabins and may not accept singles in standard cabins anymore.
Cats2010 Posted August 30, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2015 I don't think so, because the number of single cabins would be insufficient. Also, when looking at my TA's offers, most of the time they quote prices for single use cabins.
Rare roscoe39 Posted August 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Hello Thinking of booking one of the new single cabins on QE on 2 deck. My chief concern is how quiet those cabins are AND if you can hear noise from the casino nearby. Also, if the shower stalls are the same size (Hoping larger) as standard double cabins. Your help most appreciated. Thank you. Deck Chair Hi Deck Chair, Ive been in the single cabins, the bathrooms are the same as the normal brittannia staterooms, same size etc. The rooms lack a sofa, the bed is a small double, and there is only one set of drawers beside the bed rather than the usual two. The big advantage of the rooms is the big picture window which goes down nearly all the way to the floor. You can lie in bed and look out to sea. The rooms are quiet in my opinion. The companionway that leads to them is entered from the Theatre side, though from memory there is a door from the hall into the casino. I couldn't hear any noise of the slots from the hallway. Standard entrance way, no keyed access. Overall I would prefer to pay the small difference and get the larger size double occupancy staterooms, at the moment they are advertised (certainly on the WC with only a slight discount than the standard fare plus 175%) Apart from that though there is a feeling of "selectiveness" as there are limited numbers in the area as opposed to the long lines of staterooms in the decks above. Oh and the new single staterooms have the new large wall mounted tvs on the QE and QV, which as of 25 July the QV brittannia staterooms didn't. No word on when they will get them. Hope this helps, there are a few pics floating around of the staterooms, let me know if you can't find them and Ill put my ones up. Austcruiser84 Posted August 31, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 31, 2015 In my opinion, Cunard does prefer 2 people in standard cabins and may not accept singles in standard cabins anymore. If Cunard attempted to do this not only would they face lawsuits over discriminatory behaviour, but they'd lose a huge amount of business. So I seriously doubt theyd ever try. Anyone can book any cabin for a price. I'm perfectly happy to pay extra as a solo traveller as it means extra room. I really don't know how anyone shares a cabin. I did it once and it was only for 3 days - that was more than enough! Nothing against that person, but I need my space.

dry with olives Posted August 31, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 31, 2015 We booked two of the single rooms for family in September. Both got upgraded to regular ocean rooms with no extra charge. The single rooms are in fact a bit cheaper than the regular rooms with the single supplement if you are looking at unobstructed ocean view rooms. Navaleye Posted August 31, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 31, 2015 I am in one now (2008) on the QE. It is quiet and spacious and ideally located for Queens Room. Golden Lion and Commodore Club. Any questions, just ask. Navaleye
Sydneysider1310 Posted September 2, 2015 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2015 Thanks for that info Roscoe as my mum is considering doing some solo cruising so loves to hear anyone's experiences about it. I have cruised with her over the last four years but all on Holland America ships, including their fabulous Trans Pacific crossings from Seattle/Vancouver to Sydney three times. We are considering a cruise on QV Feb/Mar joining you on your world tour but only for the Sydney to Hong Kong stretch. We were looking at the San Francisco to Sydney then Sydney (again) as that is a fabulous itinerary but are leaning towards an Asia cruise this time. This will be our first cruise on any of the Queens so we are really looking forward to it and loving any info about them beforehand. Maybe we'll bump into you on board but for now we'll enjoy reading some of your blogs. Thanks again!
