Port Questions for Breakaway 12-Day Southern Caribbean

We're going on the 12-Day Southern Caribbean cruise out of NYC in November and I have some questions about the ports we'll be visiting.

I've been on the Gem twice and know how crappy Port Canaveral is unless you take an excursion. Does anyone know about the ports on the Southern Caribbean cruise? Do you need to book an excursion in order to enjoy them or are there beaches, shops, restaurants, etc. within walking distance? I'm mostly interested in having a little bit of beach time. :p

Thanks!

If you click into ports, then caribben you will see all those islands-just click on whatever island you would like info on and you can educate yourself on whatever you are interested in.

You'll probably do well to check out the specific ports on CruiseCritics "Ports of Call" subforum for the Caribbean:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=587

Take a look at each port you'll be visiting, and you can ask questions about proximity to beaches, etc., and also read what others are reporting.

Another suggestion is to look at your Roll Call, and see what others are discussing/planning, even if you aren't joining them.

Enjoy!

A guidebook (available at libraries!) will give you a very comprehensive view of all your ports and all there is!

That way, you can decide what you want to do, and you'll see if it's a DIY thing, or if you need a tour.....most things (beaches, shopping, etc...) are easy on your own!!
