Team fraser Posted September 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Hello everyone, I'd appreciate some advice! Perhaps rather naively as 1st time cruisers we have booked a flight from orlando to cancun for 12.39pm on the day our freedom of the seas cruise arrives back into port canaveral. How does disembarking work? How long does it take? If it is by assigned time is it likely we could request to get off in the early groups? We had hoped to book a shuttle for 8am from the dock. We are now worried we have overestimated how quickly we may get off the ship! Advice from the regulars would be really helpful! Thanks Laura
CntPAcruiser Posted September 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) You will probably want to go with the self-disembarkation. To do so, you'll have to carry off all your own luggage, but you'll be among the first regular passengers (i.e., unless you're in a suite or have Crown & Anchor status). You wait in line in an announced area with your luggage, carry everything off with you when they let you go, and you head to customs and leave the building from there. We did this last time we disembarked at Port Canaveral, and we had a flight right around noon. We booked with Cocoa Beach Shuttle, and they picked us up in good time and got us to the airport in plenty of time to make our flight. With the regular disembark, by assigned group, you leave your large luggage outside the cabin the night before departure, and you'll be assigned a group number to disembark and a waiting area. These are assigned according to your flight time, so they would likely put you in the earliest group. Breakfast is early, and you go to your waiting area until called to leave the ship. From there, you go to a luggage area in the port building to find your large luggage, wait in line for customs, etc., and then can leave to catch your shuttle. Thanks Laura You will receive a questionnaire regarding your post cruise travel plans. RCI will use this info to assign your debarkation time. Once off the ship; you find your luggage, clear customs and you are on your way. Your other alternative is to self debark (Carry your own luggage off.) With either method you should have no problem getting to the airport on time; though you may not catch an 8:00 shuttle.
cb at sea Posted September 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Actually, you probably don't need to do self carry-off, but you will need to inform them (about midway thru the cruise) that you have an early flight, so you can be in one of the 1st groups off the ship. It doesn't usually take THAT long!
Team fraser Posted September 5, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted September 5, 2015 What a relief! Thank you all that's very reassuring! We are more than happy to carry our bags so maybe self-disembarking would work for us! Sounds like royal carribean really do think of everything! Assume we just request this from guest services once on board... Very excited about cruise. 3 weeks to go. X
