gtalum Posted September 9, 2015 #726 Share Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) I don't think that is stupid. I sail in Nov also and would like to make other plans ASAP It's not silly to be concerned, but I have to say I think your cruise will be untouched. The ship still can sail under its own power, and whatever repairs are needed will be limited to the engine room. They got Triumph back into service in about 60 days, and the damage was much much worse in that case. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 9/13 sailing cancelled, but I'm willing to bet that Liberty is back in service for either the 9/20 or 9/27 cruise. Retired_to_Cruise Posted September 9, 2015 #728 Share Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) I wish carnival would send out something to the next cruisers. I'm booked on the 9-13 trip. All i get is "our last update says your trip will be on schedule." Going to be some crap if we are told Saturday day "after flying to SJ on Friday" that our trip is canceled. and the circus of trying to find 7 nights of hotels in SJ along with 3000 others. Deleted post. It was covered by someone else. Edited September 9, 2015 by Retired_to_Cruise

gone_cruisin Posted September 9, 2015 #730 Share Posted September 9, 2015 what is your suggestion? Allow people booked on 9/13 cruise to be able to make changes. Rebook at a later date? Another sailing?
jam82 Posted September 9, 2015 #731 Share Posted September 9, 2015 No, guests will disembark based on when their flight is scheduled. Thank you so much for all the factual updates. They are very much appreciated. We are just wondering how things are on the ship? Are they letting passengers off for the day to explore St. Thomas? Is all food service still operating like usual? Are all other amenities/services being offered - spa, pool, casino, camp carnival, shops, shows? Hope you are still enjoying your vacation. Thanks again. poz222 Posted September 9, 2015 #732 Share Posted September 9, 2015 so generally, USCG does not give clearance for a ship to sail because of safety issues, not because an engine or engines cannot be started. The ship would only need 1-2 engines to arrive SJU. If I remember correctly One of the issues on the triumph was they were not permitted to re-start engines because they used up all the fire suppression fluids/CO. Being that they activated these systems might it be they cannot sail until those systems are recharged? St. Thomas is a small island so I would imagine getting the proper chemicals might be difficult. So there is a chance the next cruise will be ok. ObstructedView2 Posted September 9, 2015 #734 Share Posted September 9, 2015 Pauleydm, Thank goodness you came back to your post!! Especially now when far too much speculation is occurring within it. :) You are correct! I reread Pauley's post and it sounds like they are disembarking everyone today. No, guests will disembark based on when their flight is scheduled. .

Rare Honolulu Blue Posted September 9, 2015 #740 Share Posted September 9, 2015 I'm surprised no one posted the other bit of news from Mr. Heald's Facebook page. I'll quote the relevant portion: For those of you on the Carnival Liberty you may see a lady today walking around the ship, shaking your hand and shaking the hand of our crew. She will be thanking you and she will be listening to you and she will be there if you feel you would like to thank her for making sure you were looked after accordingly. The lady in question is our President, Christine Duffy who left Italy just two days ago and who later today will fly to St. Thomas to be with the guests and crew of the Carnival Liberty, and I think that is totally brilliant. And if I could and I wasn’t half way around the world I would be there too. In the meantime, I'll wait for Pauley's updates and not throw fuel on the speculation fire (though it is fun reading :) ). I do hope they are correct for everyone that is being affected. Edited September 9, 2015 by gone_cruisin

I do not have facebook or I would do it myself. But can somebody from here send a note to JOHN Heald. I think Mme President should set up a meeting with our OP and thank him for everything he has done for the "outside world"............ just a thought. . Also....... glad to here that ASept 13th and future cruises are "good to go".
AdrenalineRush Posted September 9, 2015 #744 Share Posted September 9, 2015 That great news if true. I hope he's right! Yes, I hope it's true for all concerned. I just wonder if they are sure that the ship will be back in San Juan Sunday why are they still flying everyone home. Why lose out on all that potential revenue.. pauleydm Posted September 9, 2015 Author #745 Share Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) At this point, we are not able to disembark in St Thomas. As far as activities and services, with the exception of the Fun Shops, everything else is open. Guests who are flying out today will be informed by 12:00 pm. Carnival will fly approximately 800 passengers today. All other guests will not fly out today and will be able to go ashore as soon as clearance is received. Those going ashore today must be back on board by 7:00 pm. Edited September 9, 2015 by pauleydm

USCG hasn't cleared her for sailing with passengers until full repairs are completed. My guess is that Friday after the last pax debarks, they'll sail for PR with only the crew onboard (they can get a waiver for this if the USCG agrees), and the repair will be started on Saturday. I guess they're assuming it's a 1-2 day repair.
kmc500 Posted September 9, 2015 #747 Share Posted September 9, 2015 I dont think that is stupid. I sail in Nov also and would like to make other plans ASAP It isn't stupid to be concerned, but the fact that Carnival has yet to make a call on the cruise scheduled for Sunday probably makes calling them about a November cruise somewhat of an exercise in futility.
