yj_eugene Posted September 17, 2015 #51 Share Posted September 17, 2015 Don't feel bad...I've already pre-chosen my cruise for summer 2018! :p Join the club. shipfriend_max Posted September 17, 2015 Author #52 Share Posted September 17, 2015 Great to know, seeing Navigator and Indy listed for Gibraltar in 2017! [emoji5] Serenade of the Seas in also listed for Honningsvag, North Cape (Norway) the 7th of June 2017, so it's more or less sure to see her operating on the Scandinavia and Baltic itineraries again. In a cruise magazin, Jörg Rudolph, german Managing Director for RCCL, mentioned, that it would be possible to deploy a RCCL ship from a german port in 2017 again. Maybe it could be Serenade of the Seas.
Cruzin-K Posted September 17, 2015 #53 Share Posted September 17, 2015 Same here, planning my 50th birthday celebration with a cruise from Australia. Hoping to sail either the 24 Night Sydney to Seattle or 18 night Brisbane to Hong Kong. I guess if we happen to end up on the same cruise, we can have a joint birthday party :p 1968 was a good year :D I won't be able to do more than a 14 night. I'm eyeing either a r/t Sydney to Fiji/Vanuatu, or perhaps the repo from Sydney to Singapore. Either way, I want to spend three days in Singapore at the end of the trip. springaussie Posted September 21, 2015 #54 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Interesting interview with Gavin Smith CEO Royal Australia and Asia. (3:30 p.m. AEST) -- The key to more flexible itineraries and a longer Australian season for the new Ovation of the Seas may lie in the regional ports outside of Sydney. With Sydney Harbour's cruise terminals booked out for years, Royal Caribbean Cruises is looking to the next nearest ports -- Wollongong to the south and Newcastle to the north -- for solutions. “The thinking is, if we moved our smallest ship, Radiance of the Seas, to Wollongong for a few turnarounds, would that allow us to extend our Ovation season? It's doable,” regional vice president Asia Pacific, Gavin Smith, told Cruise Critic. Ovation of the Seas, which will be the newest and biggest ship to ever visit Australia, has four sailings from Sydney scheduled between December 2016 and January 2017, with hopes it will return the following summer for a longer season. Meanwhile, in October 2016, Radiance of the Seas is set to be the first cruise ship to call at Wollongong. Wollongong's industrial Port Kembla is also heating up as a potential new turnaround port -- where cruises start and finish -- with Smith saying the decision is “driven by the capacity to provide shelter for passenger processing”. He said Port Kembla has "sheds of football field proportions that could easily accommodate baggage and border control, so we haven't got to build anything" and it “ticks all the boxes” in marine, road and bus infrastructure. “If people can overcome the emotion of an industrial harbour, I can see no downsides.” Smith pointed to other world-class cities whose main cruise terminals are more than an hour's drive from the city centre: London, Rome, Los Angeles, New York. “It's not unusual to have a port an hour from an airport, so I see no problem with bringing people by bus from Sydney Airport to Wollongong.” As a port of call, Wollongong would also allow the flexibility to have a day on land rather than a day at sea when cruises head home to Sydney. “If Sydney is booked out on the day we want to go back, Wollongong gives us the opportunity to extend the cruise by a day but still have a port of call,” he explained. Smith hinted that the line's other ships may visit the city when he revealed that simulations of arrivals and departures of Voyager of the Seas were recently conducted at a marine college in Launceston. But it could be a couple of years before the next Royal ship sails into ‘the Gong'. “We won't be calling in 2016-17 but we will call again in 2017-18. If we can negotiate an extension to Ovation in early 2018, that might mean it will happen then, but it is more likely to be late 2018,” Smith said. The company has also been considering Newcastle as an alternative to the congestion at Sydney, he added. “It's just that little bit further away, but not beyond the realm of possibility.” It is hoped that other cruise lines will be encourage to add beachside Wollongong to east coast itineraries, attracted by its easy access to tourist destinations such as the Illawarra region, Jamberoo, Canberra and Kangaroo Valley. “Once somebody pioneers a place, others follow. P&O has been the great pioneer of cruising in Australia, opening lots of regional ports that Royal Caribbean now visits, and similarly I hope our interest in Port Kembla will be replicated by other brands.” --By Louise Goldsbury, Australia Editor http://www.cruisecritic.com.au/news/news.cfm?ID=6541
MADflyer Posted September 22, 2015 #55 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Freedom of the Seas has just been booked for the 2017 summer season at Villefranche and will most likely take the place of Harmony (Allure) at Barcelona. MADflyer Posted September 22, 2015 #56 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Indy has been booked for 6 calls at Villefranche and 1 call at Cannes, while Navigator has been booked for only 3 calls so far at Villefranche. Navigator enter the MED 4 times through Gibraltar, while Indy only docks at Gibraltar 4 times. This indicates that both ships will have varied itineraries out of Southampton and not just repeat the same itineraries. The 12 night Barcelona ship, most likely Brilliance, has not yet been booked. MADflyer Posted September 22, 2015 #57 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Any idea whether there will be a winter season Radiance class out of San Juan as well? I love Adventure, but really prefer the Radiance ships. I'll be on Jewel winter of 2016. Like many here, I'm dreaming about 2018 as well. I used to cruise yearly, but sadly the economy has beaten me back to every 2-3 years. I hate those periods of time when I have NO cruises booked. :( Jewel does show up for seasonal deployment at St. Maarten for the winter of 2017/18 and this should indicate seasonal San Juan deployment. MADflyer Posted September 22, 2015 #59 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Thanks for posting. Doesn't seem like there will be many surprises this year. I was thinking the only surprise might have been with the Explorer on the west coast following the Alaska season, but it does not look like that. I am wondering if they are debating over Jewel/Brilliance deployment at the moment as there is some room there for a mini-surprise. Having a split Northern Europe/Western Europe/ MED season on the same ship would also still be possible. I keep hoping they might look at some one-way MED sailings, short MED sailings and even a Malaga mini-deployment, but doubt any of it will happen. MADflyer Posted September 23, 2015 #60 Share Posted September 23, 2015 With Freedom now booked to Europe for the summer, she will then return with a transatlantic from Barcelona on the 29th of October 2017 and with a 12 night TA would return to Port Everglades on Friday the 10th of Novmeber or with a 13 night for Sat. November 11th or with a 14 night on Sunday the 12th to resume a Eastern / Western season. Freedom is booked every other week at Grand Cayman and St. Maarten for the entire winter 2017-18 season. She should sail first on an Eastern sailing on the 12th of November, followed by a Western on the 19th of November, 2017. She is again booked through April of 2018. Do you see a ship doing the 4/5 cruises from PE? Haven't seen you mention that yet. Sorry about mixing those up. The 6+8= 14 thing always messes me up. It would seem that Freedom would go to the 6/8 with the every other Tuesday calls at Gran Cayman. Indy would go to the 4/5 While Serenade is showing up at St. Maarten for the longer sailings, Navigator ports do not really report. Without Labadee, Cozumel or the ABC islands reporting it will be hard to confirm Navigator until closer in, but I also hope the 5 night / 9 nights continue and with the recent Miami news, that does make sense. There are a couple of factors that might influence this. While not needing the 5year mandatory mechanical dry dock, they could do a design and feature enhancement dry dock. September and October are week periods from PE and cruises have in the past been heavily discounted. The mini-season on Oasis was extremely successful demanding very high daily fares. MADflyer Posted September 23, 2015 #69 Share Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) I highly doubt it, that she will be taken out of service for an enhanced dry dock. They can also do a mini-season without a Cadiz dry dock. I just think at some point they are going to add the deck 4 solo cabins now found on Harmony, move the D lounge down to 4 and enlarge the comedy club. A so called Harmonizing of Oasis class. The only known fact is that she goes somewhere for 8 to 10 weeks that removes here from the current Eastern/Western rotation. They could also use mini-seasons to move ships between US port when they want to move a ship from PE to Miami in the future. shipfriend_max Posted September 24, 2015 Author #74 Share Posted September 24, 2015 Hi MADflyer, I really like your forecasts, but that Allure is doing a short season in Med, just because she is not listed at St. Maarten between Aug and Nov, cannot ne true. Economically it would make no sense. For sure she is calling at San Juan instead of St Maarten during this period. [emoji5]️ But without Quantum and Oasis Class in Europe in 2017, RCCL will not have any of it's newer ships in Europe. But for me it is an improvement to have Freedom out of Barcelona, instead of Harmony. BTW: Indy is listed in Olden, Norway, in July 2017. OfTheSeasCruiser Posted September 25, 2015 #75 Share Posted September 25, 2015 I just thought I'd put this out here for discussion... I'm really hoping for some more interesting European itineraries for 2017, and eventually 2018. I like the 12 nighters from Barcelona, but honestly, how are you supposed to see Rome in a day? I seem to recall some 10-12 night sailings from Rome with stops in Venice. I'd like to see those again. I'd also love to see some one-ways, like Celebrity has. I won't be cruising anywhere in 2017 (Ireland land-trip!:D), but 2018 is going to be my year for Europe, and I've been browsing around out of curiosity. Celebrity's 2016 itineraries have really caught my attention, especially the one-ways. Hoping Royal follows suit...But I won't hold my breath. Madflyer, any hints for some more interesting Europe itineraries?
