Back from Carnival Glory, any questions?

Did any of the cruisers on the September 5 sailing try the steakhouse? We went because I had the best steak dinner I have ever had on the Miracle a few years ago and wanted to experience it again. We did not have the same experience this time.

When we arrived, a grandmother was trying to straighten out a reservation mix-up for her adult granddaughter. We could tell it was very important to both of them, but the hostess just didn't put much effort into working it out; "I cannot accommodate you." We were seated, greeted by an indifferent server and asked if we wanted wine. We declined. She left, somebody else came over and asked if we wanted wine. We declined again. The first one came back and said that the wine was complimentary, but couldn't explain the reason. My SO accepted (I would have declined again). She was back for the fourth time soon, to tell us that the wine was not complimentary after all and what kind of wine did we want to purchase? The appetizers were served with no visible interest or pleasantries, and then other diners were seated at the table behind me. I didn't see them, but I heard their small (possibly 2-year-old) child screaming. That continued off and on for the rest of the meal and spoiled the peaceful, romantic atmosphere for us. The filet was overcooked, the lobster was undercooked, the cheesecake was fluffy, and the rest of it was unremarkable. We had planned to go a second time, but changed our minds. I wish I had just skipped it and had a late-afternoon Guy's burger instead.

We did a B2B this past January on Conquest. This is the first time (of several B2Bs) that we had the champagne, Mimosa, or OJ when we boarded the ship for the 2nd leg. Nice touch. We did receive 2 copies of 2 photos - one formal & one funny. I wonder why you didn't get a copy. They were in our cabin a few days later.

Did you receive a fruit basket for doing B2B? We have on all of our B2Bs so far.

We're doing our next B2B January 2016 on Glory.

Yes, we did receive a fruit basked and a bottle of champagne in our room :)

I am on this voyage on Oct 3 and I am considering BTF tour but just for myself - didn't really want to pay for my group of 4. Wondering if you thought it was worth the money and the time required. What day did you do this?

We did it on the Glory a couple of years ago. Was an awesome tour. Usually the last sea day about 9 am.

Did you do any excursions? Do you have any "must-do's" in the ports ? I'm going on this cruise next May and trying to decide on what we should do in each port.

We did excursions in all ports:

Cozumel: we went to Chankanaab National Park and did the Dolphin Royal Swim through Carnival. Even without the dolphins this park is well worth the 7-minute taxi ride, beautiful beach!

Roatan: we booked a tour with Daniel Johnson. He drove us around the island and we stopped at some nice spots. He has a 'Monkey and Sloth Hangout', where he takes care of neglected animals and you get to hold sloths, monkeys, etc. Tour stops at the beach, very nice!

Belize: we went snorkeling through Carnival, wouldn't do this again. Second week we didn't even get off the ship in Belize; not our favorite port.

Grand Cayman: we booked the Stingray City excursion on a catamaran through Carnival. The ride to SC was very nice, SC itself was crowed; just OK.

We did the Glory steakhouse about two years. We have been to steakhouse on about 6 Carnival ships and service was worse than awful.

Dinner took over 3 hours and server disappeared for long periods and never even checked back to see if we had what we ordered. Sides were missing and never did show up.

Finally had to get the manager involved and she was not very interested either.

If we could have removed the tip would have. Was shocked the manager didnt offer us drinks or something as an apology.

Do you know/remember the trivia subjects and what time they usually ran trivia?

Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk

Trivia was ran throughout the day, mostly in the morning or early afternoon, sometimes early evening too. Lots of subjects too:

Harry Potter, Star Wars, Sports, United States, General Knowledge, Name that Tune, 80's Trivia with the Cruise director in the lobby (I really can recommend this one, at the end it wasn't trivia no more, but just a party with 80's music), Beer, Movie Quotes, Word Play, 90's Trivia, Television, etc.

BTF was done on the last sea day only, from 9AM to approximately 12:15PM

Thanks again.... Do you have the days and times of the theater shows? With that list of movies I may need to make a decision on which to do.

I am going on the Glory on December 5th. My husband and I plan on doing the Chef's Table. Did you like it? Where was it held at? My husband is super nervous that it will be on Lobster night in the MDR. Was this the case with you?

The Chef's table was amazing! It was held in the Dining Room Annex (on the deck plans) right across the Art Gallery. It was NOT on lobster night in the MDR, I remember BBQ spare ribs being on the menu that night and it was on a Tuesday.

Will be on Glory next month. Can you give some insight to the behind the fun tour? Thanks

Sure, no problem! You start in the Library, where some pastries from the continental breakfast and coffee/tea/juice is served. Then you'll get to see a lot of the ship, from the crew area on the bow to the theater (backstage), the crew restaurant, storage of food and drinks, laundry, galley, the navigational bridge, engine control room, etc.

We really enjoyed it and thought it was well worth the money. After the tour you'll receive complimentary pictures taken during the tour (on the bow of the ship and on the bridge with the captain) and a treat from the chef in your room.

Thank you for answering so many questions! We are on the Glory the end of October. Did you have to use a card for the lights or the safe? Trying to figure out if we need to take a couple of old cards with us.

You're welcome! Glad I can 'do something back' finally :P

On the Glory you will not need a card for the lights, but you will need one for the safe that is in the rooms.

We will be on the Glory in January for 21 days and dh will be ecstatic to hear that they have Caesar Salads at the pizza place. Last time we were on a Carnival ship with the pizza pirate they did not have the salads so we had to order them through room service.

Do they have a live band that plays in the evenings at a venue? Do they have a calypso band that plays at the pool?

How are the activities? Last time we were on the Conquest and there was nothing but trivia. That is fine if you are a trivia buff but bad for folks like me.

What do you mean by using a card for the safe? I'll be going on my first Carnival cruise in December on the Glory (Eastern).

Also, how much was the Behind the Fun??? I would love to do this!

I forgot to mention in my first post that we also did the Chef's Table and the Behind the Fun tour on this cruise. Let me know if you have any questions about those too! :)

We have reservations for the Chef's Table on the Glory in November! How was the staff? Did they have non-alcoholic drinks like sparkling cider? Did you like that you were in the conference room? Did the chef allow you to take pictures? Any more tips or thoughts?

Who doesn't love the Caesar salads? ;)

They had several live performers playing in the lobby and at the casino stage. On deck there was no live music, still the DJ.

There is still a lot of trivia on the Glory. We didn't really participate in any activity, we just had a good time with the family.
