xbatt8 Posted September 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2015 What is the quickest, easiest, best way to get from Quebec City to New York, NY for someone who doesn't fly? Thanks, Bob

Rare mskaufman Posted September 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2015 Taking the next cruise back might even be the easiest way in addition to being the best way. Certainly not the quickest.

Not sure yet. Did Amtrak in 2013 for the Miracle reposition from NY to Long Beach. That was a very nice trip. Bob
Blue Mudshark Posted September 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2015 ViaRail from Quebec City to Montreal, Amtrak from Montreal to New York City.
Nitemare Posted September 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2015 Train is nearly a 24 hour route. Renting a car or using a car service should be under 10 hours
Jolie_Cruiser Posted September 18, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) The quickest, easiest way, if you don't mind driving, is a one-way rental car. The drive is about 9 hours. To avoid a long wait at the border, choose where you are crossing carefully. Bring a GPS, as road signs in Québec are in French. Many Americans do this every year without a problem, especially families going back to Boston. The Amtrak train ride from Montréal is scenic but long, at least 11 hours. There is only one train a day which leaves around 10:00 AM. The Via Rail train ride to Montréal from Québec City is another approx. 3 hours. Greyhound has multiple buses which go from Montréal to New York. The night one takes about 7 hours not counting time at the border crossing. It is another 3 hours, with the Orleans Express bus between Québec City and Montréal. Financially anyway, either train or bus, it is going to cost you about 130-170 CAD. For a bit more, I would rent a car. Also, gas is cheap these days. If you do not want to drive, then sharing a limo would be an option. xbatt8 Posted September 19, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Very good suggestions, thank you all. I wil look into both rental car and train. I do like train travel and it should be a really pretty trip that time of year. But, I also don't mind driving. Thanks to all, Bob
maryann ns Posted September 19, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2015 This information was in my newspaper today: Amtrak is again running its Great Dome car between Albany and Montreal during leaf-peeping season. The car features windows on all sides to provide panoramic views of Lake Champlain and the eastern edge of the Adirondack Mountains. Amtrak says the car will run for six weeks beginning Thursday.
