House Select Drinks Package

Just booked a cruise on Riviera and it comes with a free house select drinks package. Their website just states unlimited wine with lunch and dinner but gives no details of wines available i.e. do you have a choice and does it include sherry and port?

Would appreciate comments from fellow cruisers who have used this package.

I believe it is any wine sold by the glass or beer on the bar menus & only available at meal times

someone will correct me if wrong

I do not drink sherry or ports but is it classed as a wine or spirit??

The House Select Package only covers Wine or Beer during luncheon and Dinner, which is to say no highballs, mixed drinks or cocktails, and nothing served in a Lounge or Bar.

It covers meals served in a Restaurant or via Room Service, but in either case, the wine is served by the glass and the Beer by the single portion bottle.

House Select covers any wine on the Bar Menu, and there are generally half a dozen "Late Harvest or Fortified Wines" to be found there:

This was their list as of January, 2015:

  • Domaine De La Bergerie Le Clos de la Girardiere, France
  • Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage Port, Oporto, Portugal
  • Château du Juge, Sauterne, France
  • Château la Varière, Bonnezeaux, Loire Valley, France
  • Antinori Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC, Tuscany, Italy
  • Dow's Vintage Port, Oporto, Portugal

Hope that this helped, enjoy your cruise-

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade from the "free" included House package to the Premium Package?

And if so can you do that onboard?

Certainly is if you booked here in the UK.....I converted two already booked 2016 to the O Life deal, which included the House Select package, despite the higher initial outlay the overall saving is around £200pp for a 2 week cruise. We always take the Prestige Select package so for us the £178 upgrade pp was worth it. Speak to your travel agent and they should be able to arrange.

North Americans get free excursions instead of the beverage packages

It would be nice if you could choose what option you want :D

That wouldn't help either because of the "We don't drink enough to make the Package worthwhile set", followed closely by the " We don't do busses contingent"-

You look and I'll whistle

I do agree with Jim even though I could be accused of being a member of both of those groups. :D

But we did accept oLife tours for our TA next year from Barcelona to NY and I would consider the "free" liquor package ... but if I were to take a liquor package (DH would NOT, that's for sure) I'd want to upgrade to the "real" package. I still don't think I'd get the benefit if I were to purchase it on its own, but if some of it starts out being free I wouldn't refuse!

maybe they could have option # 3 a discount if you do not take either of the others

That would be my choice :D

It seems discrimination not to offer UK passengers the same deal - re free excursions.

I am sure some North American passenger would like the drinks package instead of excursions ;)

Must be a reason why they chose to offer different perks to different countries

Maybe the answer to this might be Americans drink more than Brits !!!
