How bad is the #coff# smoke ?

I've noticed several mentions of smoking on Costa. How bad is it? Are the dining rooms foggy? Elevators? Am I going to want to jump overboard by the second day? I'm not asthmatic or anything, but I don't want to be breathing second hand smoke non-stop, and while I'm eating.

As commented, clear in the dining rooms and theatre for shows.

Smoke will be prevalent in the lounges, casino, hallways and yes, sometimes on elevators and lastly, the washrooms. Smoke will not be a fog. Where there is an air flow, it will be less noticeable. The good part is you won't spend $'s where it stinks. You will notice it especially if you live in an area where smoking in not tolerated in malls, restaurants and bars/lounges.

As to smoking only on port side, unfortunately the smokers will define port side (on any ship) for you. Be assertive.

I would guess that if your cruising in the Caribbean there will be less smoking on board than if you were cruising the Med. I just think that Europeans are heavier smokers than most Americans. Just my opinion, don't jump all over me.:D

Not sure where this "information" about smoking on Costa got started. We were concerned that we would hack our way through our 12 day Costa cruise.

We sailed the Fortuna in February, Med. and Canary Islands. 95%+ passengers were European (only 50 Americans on board). Noticed little or no difference in smoking since it is prohibited in dining areas, showrooms, etc. Half of bars designated smoking. Same as Celebrity, NCL, Carnival, Princess. There probably were more smokers on board, physically, but never noticed more effects than normal.

These good reports are all great news to my ears. I'm highly allergic to cigarette smoke, and dread the smoky parts of casinos and such. However, the only time I had a problem on my previous cruise was when my balcony neighbor constantly smoked and blew it my way. Hopefully that won't happen this time, and it's great to know that there are really no more smoking sections on Costa than there are on Princess or Carnival or whatever.

Our son is a real smoke-a-phobe, so I was VERY worried about this as well. We didn't notice any problem at all, and we went to every evening show and had dinner in the dining room nightly. This a couple of years ago on the Atlantica, and I just booked the Magica for our upcoming Spring break. We're really looking forward to it.

We just returned from Costa Magica. I have read everything you did, I was very worried about the smoke since I am an asthmatic. But I didn't have one problem. We didn't notice any smoke in the dinning room, elevators, casino, or most of the bars/ lounges..

Have a great cruise, I'm sure everything will be fine. :)
