DP Posted September 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2015 Has anyone ever been charged for bags weighing over 50 lbs? If so how are you charged as I have been told by concierge that the ship does not weigh your bags. The ship only transfers your bags directly to the airline. gr8.guy Posted September 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2015 That's a good question. Since we usually drive to the port we have never encountered this. The few times we used luggage valet we didn't even think about the luggage weight but once leaving from Ft Lauderdale a big bottle of Crown Royal stowed snugly in the middle of a suitcase suffered a "leak" on the journey between the ship and the plane. It's very unnerving to be seated and ready to leave to be called overhead about your bag. Everything smelled of crown which is a nice smell but not when stuffed in an airplane. Hopalong60 Posted September 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2015 If your bag is overweight, they'll tell you at the check-in counter at the airport. The fee is published on your airline's website. They will give you the option to take out enough items to get your bag underweight, but then you have to figure out what to do with all that extra to carry-on the plane. I'd suggest investing in a luggage scale to make sure you avoid this before you get out the door to your trip.

This is not possible when using Luggage Valet as you don't see your bags until you get to the destination.
DP Posted September 24, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted September 24, 2015 When you use luggage valet service the ship prints your boarding pass and since you have no bags to check at the airport you do not go to checkin but directly to your plane. So how do you get charged if your bags are over weight? We recently flew Jet Blue using luggage valet and when we picked up our bags at our arrival city one bag had a Jet Blue tag on it stating overweight and 52 lbs written on it but we were never

setsail Posted September 24, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2015 (edited) Its spelled out on the form you fill out on the ship All airline baggage fees will be applied to your seapass account. I have always taken that to mean all fees, inclusive of overweight bags. Edited September 24, 2015 by setsail
cb at sea Posted September 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2015 The AIRLINES will have a problem with overweight bags. Weigh them...and remember what's in each bag! The ship doesn't weigh anything...unless you're on a weight dependent excursion...then, they will weigh you!
Ashland Posted September 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2015 We never travel without a handheld luggage scale...you could take them up to the onboard gym to weigh them, but that may be frowned upon. Invest in a scale ;)
