Biscuits and gravy on the Breeze?

You would be surprised that a lot of places use a gallon can of prepared sausage gravy. Then they add their own fresh sausage that has already been cooked, leave a little grease in, you can't tell the difference.

 

I embarrassed myself, a time that I made us pass up a comp breakfast before leaving to come home from a casino. Husband is from New Jersey, me, Texas. I know the casino gravy tastes like paste so insisted we stop at a cracker barrel on the way home. It was just as bad! He never knew as won't eat red neck food, but I knew and never mentioned it.:o

 

Never ever had good biscuits and gravy at Cracker Barrel...Maybe their chef went to NCL:D Not every "Southern" café can make good ones either. Not sure if I'd trust a "South" Indian cook to do justice to the dish.

Might be a dumb question, but-do you HAVE to go on excursions or can you stay on the boat? If you don't do a specific tour or excursion, can you just get off the boat and walk around? Thanks.

To be flippant...YES! you have to take an excursion to get good biscuits and gravy.:D:D

 

In all seriousness...NO! you do NOT have to take an excursion or even get off the ship and walk around the dock. For some ports this becomes a great opportunity to almost have the ship to yourselves and enjoy the venues that tend to be crowded on sea days.:)

 

It's your vacation, you can do as you please (within reason, of course;))

I am afraid they would probably destroy them. Not just anyone can make biscuits and gravy right.

 

I was on an NCL cruise and they had biscuits and gravy and they were the worst I have ever eaten.

 

Don't know about the Breeze but the Sunshine had them when we were on there in October. And Ewwwwww. Tasted like wallpaper paste with onions and VERY little sausage. The biscuits were hockey pucks. I wanted to march into the kitchen and teach them how to make it right.

I'm from Boston but have traveled the country pretty extensively, and I LOVE biscuits and gravy. But only good ones. My first taste must have been really great because Cracker Barrel just doesn't do it for me. I've learned to only order them in small places in the southeast. Would never try them onboard for that reason. Same with lobster. I was born and bred in Boston and would never try lobster anywhere but New England.

:)Exactly! jpennin217's idea is the best. Home made can't be beat! Unless a bad cook makes them, but, if that is all you are used to, you would not know the difference.

I have actually had good ones at golden corral, but not consistently. Sometimes they taste good, but gravy is too thin. Or taste like paste as too thick. Guess they expect the good gravy to thicken since on a steam table. Some that read all this may wonder what the big deal is, but good b&g and good grits are a big deal to me as part of breakfast. Being on a cruise is definitely worth going a week without some favorite foods. Eggs benedect (sp)is also pretty bad, IMHO.;)

I will be cruising alone with a group of married couples. Is there any way I could find out if there are more singles aboard, as a group or just by themselves like me?

There is absolutely no good culinary reason why the ships galley cannot prepare good tasting sausage gravy when you consider the exquisite food prepared for the Chefs Table. Sausage gravy is not that complicated to prepare.

You will get more replies if you just start a thread about this. People will more than likely read it if they have info or are interested in the subject matter, rather than people that are reading a thread about a completely different subject: B&G. My only other suggestion is to find your roll call. Happy cruising!:)

They had biscuits and gravy on the Sunshine and it was not very good. The biscuits were like bricks and the gravy was not southern breakfast gravy, but more like a savory gravy that you'd serve over chicken or turkey. With that being said, the gravy was tasty to me, but most people probably don't find onions, garlic, and chicken broth very appetizing for breakfast.

 

Being a Southerner, I love biscuits and gravy...just not the Carnival version :)
