garebarepups Posted October 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2015 We are a family of 3, me (41), dh (40) and dd (11). Also my in-laws will be on board with us. I saw you can make reservations for the main dinner room, is this really necessary. Will it be forever to get a table for 5. We choose the drinking package so we are going to one possibly two specialty restaurants but that would just be the two of us. Would that be a good idea to make a reservation at the specialty restaurant or could the 2 of us get a table that same day.
Theroxykitten Posted October 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2015 Personally I've never found it an issue. Depends on your definition of forever Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mjkacmom Posted October 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2015 My family of 7 went on a holiday week, and never even waited.
GORDONCHICK Posted October 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2015 Since it's Thanksgiving week, I would make reservations for specialties. I would only make DMR reservations if you wish to be seated sometime between 6:30-7:30. If you show up earlier or later, you should be good. Rare BirdTravels Posted October 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 9, 2015 The MDR should never be a problem. However you MUST make reservations for the specialty restaurants. There is really limited opportunities to walk in during peak dining time.
garebarepups Posted October 9, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted October 9, 2015 I'm going to make reservations at Le Bistro today. And I think its called Ocean Blue. Anyone know where I can see their new a' al carte menu.
MrsAllie Posted October 13, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2015 I couldn't find the a al carte menu anywhere. I did find this on NCL.com. "In addition to Norwegian Escape's specialty restaurants, Ocean Blue on Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway will also begin offering à la carte options on October 3, 2015, and the new à la carte dining will be available fleetwide beginning January 1, 2016." jackparts Posted October 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 13, 2015 We are on the same cruise and because we are 11, we made reservations for the specialty restaurants. In 2013, we sailed on the Damn Dawn over Turkey day and did not make reservations for any meal. We (10) went the first night at 5:30 and waited along time to sit together. That was the last time we ate together due to time and space. I now always make reservations, even though we eat early, usually 5:30. I know it's called Freestyle, but like everything else, S'it happens.

Lacaena Posted October 16, 2015 #13 Share Posted October 16, 2015 I think it depends on your personalities. If you are go with the flow kind of people then just check out one of the screens for what's available. Sure, you might have to eat a little later or go to a restaurant that's not your first choice but you can always make a reservation on board for another night if you still haven't gotten to the one you really want. However, if you (or people you're with) are the kind of person who likes a schedule and you want to be sure you can go exactly where and when you like then I'd make reservations. DH and I find that we'd rather wing it than have to be beholden to a schedule, but that's just us. We frequently make reservations in the morning or the night before on the ship. That way we know what our schedule is and we have the daily for the day etc. If you're sure what you want though you may as well make them now, better safe than sorry. Sorry, that ended up a little more convoluted than I intended when I originally started writing :)

I'll do just that and check out the screens, menu's etc. I don't care if I eat early or late. I did make a reservation at Le Bistro and I figure we will do the rest on board.
