Equinox wifi

Did they recently upgrade the satellite connection or something on the equinox?

We're now on board Equinox and will be continuing on the B2B TA. Early on this cruise, we were told that the faster internet is due to a temporary trial of new technology and will NOT be available on the TA.

Too bad since we've really enjoyed the faster internet. Have even used FaceTime and similar video calling services successfully.

Now that is a bummer! Oh well, I guess we will still enjoy the cruise.:D

Was there any indication they might go with the new technology in the future?

We have 2 booked on Equinox....improved speed would be great!

We attended the B2B meeting on Equinox today, and they explained again that the temporary 3-cruise trial of the faster internet (using lower orbit satellites) will end tomorrow. We will go back to the slower internet for the Oct 27 TA.

In addition, the full price of the unlimited internet (before captain club discounts) was only $199 for this current cruise (as part of the temporary trial), but goes back to the normal full price of $299.

What kind of actual speeds are you experiencing ?

Try: Speedtest.net

If it's rolled out following the tests, it sure would come in handy for our 10 night sailing in March - to coincide with our unlimited internet! :)

THANKS

Cant wait to test the speeds on the TA without the extra boost. [emoji20]

I think anything approaching 1Mbps would be considered a gift! I've hit that level onboard a few times, but it's spotty - usually closer to dial-up speeds!

We boarded the Equinox on October 2nd for a B2B2B, so are also still onboard. We also were at the B2B meeting this morning, and apparently there was a trial satellite use for the past several cruises, but that will end at the conclusion of the present (October 15th) cruise. It was great while it lasted -- the internet was noticeably faster during both the October 2nd and October 15th cruises.

What a difference a day makes (along with a change in technology).

Below is an example speed test while docked in Barcelona awaiting our Oct 27 departure. In addition, I've added a summary of speed tests between yesterday (new "trial" technology) and today (back to the old technology).

Glad I brought a few good books!

How heartbreaking for those of us to board next with unlimited internet. Might have to reconsider that package and go with one from Verizon. Ouch!

If it were me, I'd have rather not been aware of what I was missing.

Ignorance can be bliss.
