Port ideas Hong Kong itinerary

 Share

Recommended Posts

hi all,

Cruising to Hong Kong next year on the Legend OTS. I have been struggling to find good and interesting things to do whilst in the following ports that are value for money.

Kota Kinabalu Malaysia.

Puerto Princesa, Philippines.

Manila, Philippines.

Has anyone been to these ports and if so what did you do? Ships tours or private? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Mick

We too will be on that cruise. After much research we decided to bite the bullet & purchase ships tours - two of which are full 8 hours so if we are late getting back we know the ship is waiting which is what I read did happen last time as the infrastructure in some more underdeveloped areas were overwhelmed by the number of people.

All other Ports are fine to DIY but a bit trickier at these 3 stops.

If you are looking for private tours in Manila. Check yolo travel philippines out. we used them last year and We loved it! The guides here speak perfect english. the stops we did were less touristy which was good and most of the time we were the only once there. We did probably 2-3 times more stops than what the cruise ships offer. these guys really know what manila is about. I found them on tripadvisor and all there reviews was just amazing. check them out.

Just had a HK stopover for 3 nights. Do yourself a favour, have some time in HK on your way home. The cruise ships dock right at Kowloon Waterfront. We stayed at the Salisbury Hotel right near there. Plenty to do in HK, Peak Tram, Aberdeen, Big Budda, HK Disney, Stanley, Star Ferries, Museums, shopping. A light/laser show each evening at 8pm on the harbour which we could see from our hotel room.

Above all enjoy.

We did Manila a few years ago. Visited the Intramuros on our own and wandered along to the big Park, but were constantly hassled by hawkers and touts. ...and yes we got ripped off by a taxi driver, despite being very cautious and got stranded out in no where land...it was a long , (but very interesting) walk back.

In the afternoon we took the ships shuttle to a shopping mall and felt much safer as police or military sharpshooters were up on the roof for protection.

A private, pre arranged tour , or the ships tour is the way to go .
