Cozumel excursions

My wife and I will be in Cozumel for a 9 hour cruise stopover and wondering what we can do. We are probably out of place as we don't care for the beaches, swimming, snorkeling, et. But we would be interested in sightseeing tours of historic areas, cultures, food, etc.

Can anyone help by suggesting a good tour company to show us around? Or are there things to see near the pier?

Thanks.

Not sure if this would interest either of you but we have booked the Amazing Cozumel Race to do in a couple of weeks when we are there. Both us and our friends who will be cruising with us for the first time are big Amazing Race fans so this seemed to be a fun thing for us to try. You can find it under shore excursions on the Carnival website.

You can hire a driver for 1/2 day. There are Mayan ruins on Coz that are very small compared to Coba or Tulum; the far side of the island has wonderful scenery. There is also a tequila factory tour available as well as a chocolate factory and many enjoy taking a Mexican cooking class.

Cooking with Josefina offers a good experience of a cooking class in a local residents home if you are interested in learning about local cuisine.

The cooking class is part demonstration, part hands-on in a fun class around the kitchen table. The class starts with a trip to the local market to purchase ingredients and concludes with lunch that you have prepared including margaritas!

cozumelcruiseexcursions(dot)net totally treated us right. we did the private jeep tour with our guide Jonny Bravo...he was fantastic..what a great kid...he was knowledgeable and fun. It was the best excursion we have done..we were totally private..no tour groups or cruise congo line in the jeeps...just us..we had a fantastic day! They have other excursions listed also, check them out!
