skynight Posted November 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2015 (edited) Hi. I see on some cruises there are theme nights. Do you find out what these are before sailing (sorry first timer here). We are sailing on Ruby Princess for 7 days in January Princess has what they call "cruise classics." These are 60 to 90min events with some dancing and activities. They are things like C&W, Rock & Roll, 70's Disco. They are pretty low key and they will be announced in the daily Princess Patter that will be in your cabin. There is no advance announcements as they vary ship to ship and voyage to voyage. There is no need to bring any costume or special dress for these. Almost no passengers dress up. There is no costume contest. If you are going on a Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, tropical Australia, or other warm weather cruise there will most likely be a deck party, weather permitting. Many passengers wear island print shirts to these, but these shirts are also common around the ship as normal wear. OCruisers Posted November 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2015 Welcome to Cruise Critic! :) Per above, few if any passengers on Princess ships dress for theme night. Look forward to having a wonderful time on Ruby Princess! :D
Cruisin' Chick Posted November 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2015 Usually the Ultimate Deck Party on the Hawaiian cruises is on a night while still in the islands or on one of the first couple of nights on the way back. Many passengers will buy at least one aloha wear item or already has a tropical shirt in their wardrobe. But you don't have to dress a la Hawaiian to participate. Usually the "theme nights" refers to the night's cuisine in the MDRs, and the waitstaff will dress for that theme. So on Italian night, expect to see the waitstaff dressed in red and white stripe shirts (like gondola shirts). During the Hawaiian cruises, the waitstaff will wear aloha shirts during one or two of the nights.

ccruisequeen Posted November 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2015 On our California Coastal, there was a tropical party on the lido deck. It wasn't announced prior to leaving, everyone wore Tommy Bahamas type shirts. I still cruise for Warm Chocolate Melting Cake (with 2 sugar free ice creams), lobster, and Creme brulee! They were hilarious and made friends easily. :) Thanks! You will have to arrange a Pub Crawl through your Roll Call. Jut get your group together at a certain day & time and start crawling. Some bars are not open during the day. If your roll call has enough passengers you may be able to arrange a mixology session with the Bar Manager. There will be a price for each person. 8dimsum Posted November 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 6, 2015 While on the Ruby in the Mediterranean (5? years ago) there was a suggested 'wear red' party and I recall on another sailing, the CD suggested an 'all white' dress up party. Have an aloha outfit or lei ready for the deck party is almost a given. --Then there is the Western theme: boots, bandanas, cowboy hats... Hard to cruise light!
