I'm not a drinker so I say stop serving drinks everywhere. After all the ships are not spotless as there are empty or half empty glasses left everywhere; the floor, top of trash cans, elevators, steps, etc. etc. Now isn't this just as silly?

That is a huge part of their revenue and a reason they are in business. Don't think that will ever go away. However as an observation from my recent trip on the BA, as more and more passengers go along with the UBP, you will indeed see less and less wait staff taking drink orders as it will then not be in the best interest of NCL. Just an observation.

Every cruise line that I cruise on regularly has had changes, some positive and some not and some customers like change and some passengers don't. In the end, NCL or any other business has to do what they feel is right for them and they will never keep every customer happy. Since NCL doesn't have a monopoly on the cruise industry, there are many others to try and see if they fit ones expectations better or stay with NCL and look for more good than bad.

I liked that it was reported that there is now a card on the room service trays on the Pearl that gives out a number to call and collect the trays and also says not to leave them outside in the hallways. This, to me, is a very positive first step in making sure the ships are spotless. Don't know if it is just on the Pearl or feet wide. Hopefully it is fleet wide.

And you got to change to stay ahead of your competitors. Go to the Princess boards and see the hand wringing on a new concept restaurant changing form the same cookie-cutter italian found on all ships across all lines. I think where NCL is ahead in that they have been in front in innovation, which is dragging others such as Princess to follow Heck I just booked an UDP & B package on Princess last month. That would never had happened without NCL. I think NCL is also ahead with speciality restaurants. Especially for the younger crowd who would gladly pay $20 to avoid sitting at a table with a set time, talking to people who have been assigned to them and waiting for each course to pass before they can leave. This is vacation for heck sake. NCL changed this with Freestyle, and you see others following with Anytime. As long as NCL continues to innovate and stay ahead of the pack, attract Millennials to the ship, they have a great future.

Lets hope its not too clean. Some time a little dirt can be fun:D

But if they were....

people would complain about the smoke and/smell.

Drinks don't smell and they don't bother the person next to you .....for the most part you can walk away from an obnoxious drunk and still enjoy the ship....the pool....the theater

Smoke lingers. It smells. It's dirty. And it is a health hazard to others. You can walk away from a smoker....but you have still been damaged health wise and you cannot enjoy a major part of the ship....the casino

So yep.....the smell from smoke=a dirty ship

And back to smoking .....

Well, at least it wasn't the smokers that brought it up again.....I mean, Sheesh, I get it - don't like smoking, I don't like smoking either, but can one of militant non-smokers take a chill pill and relax? NCL is fixing the problem that benefit both sides - calm down! Good grief....

And for the record alcohol does smell, especially if someone is reeking of it. Rubbing or drinking (wine, liquor, cooking, beer) - it makes me nausea when its too much...

I hear you can smoke on the escape in Spice H20, that's where most smokers will be. Hope you enjoy the smell.

Regarding food... Food Republic is easily the best food I've ever eaten on an NCL ship. Hands down. I probably won't ever buy a SDP again, because if I want to spend on a specialty, I'm likely going there.

I will be on Escape in March. I'm under the old UDP. So what percentage do I get off from FR. Anyway you can find out for me please puhhhty please. Thank u

I don't have a cruise consultant and the people I ask from NCL have different answers. So I would like to know first hand knowledge that is on the Escape now. Is that okay with you?

Food Republic is not covered under UDP or SDP.

Spotless ships? Then somebody needs to remove the pair of boots I found under my bed on my recent cruise. I don't know how long they were there. Going back in January and will be in the same cabin....curious if they are still there!

Was on the Breakaway in January 2015. The designated smoking area in the glass enclosure was always dirty.

How funny, we had a similar situation. On our first NCL cruise I smelled an odor when resting that first day on board. I looked under the bed and found a stinky pair of sneakers that I put outside the door thinking the room steward would pick them up.

After getting dressed for dinner we went to the elevator and when the door opened there were the sneakers! It took everything in me to try and hold my laughter in!

Two days later in the dining room a table mate that was 5 or 6 decks above us was very annoyed because two teenage boys were throwing sneakers in the hallway and hitting her door! I lost it and confessed to the table and we all had such a great laugh.

I simply stated a fact that the designated smoking area is not kept clean! Why does this necessitate a battle over smoking/non-smoking areas? I wasn't looking for any kind of debate! It is about an area of the ship that was not clean! I also included the boots left under my bed....had nothing to do with smoking!!!!

Well actually you can only smoke in a designated area in spice and due to the excellent location of spice the wind actually dissipates the stench rather quickly.

I personally love spice as its huge and the smoking area is by the bar where I am not

If you want to smoke in spice you aren't doing it at your lounger btw

You are doing it at the bar area which is easily avoided by non smokers so you ain't gonna be bothering us or the vast majority of non smokers also in spice

And since spice is so large and you will be smoking your lungs out there it will be easy to avoid smokers like you

But you will be party central anyway with your new best friends in your cabin I thought.

Smoking should only be outside in a designated area....no smoking should be allowed inside at all.

Now as far as ships being clean goes....its an on going battle, hour by hour.

It's coming don't worry

I also foresee those outside smoking areas being behind a plexiglass semi circular wall with the open area toward the sea

I didn't see anything in the article about increasing the housekeeping staff. That would be the first step necessary to accomplish the spotless ship concept.

The article also said gem had already emerged from dry dock

Increasing housekeeping staff would have been an excellent question for a reporter to ask but this was a marketing fluff piece plain and simple. Also not totally accurate regarding gem

Depending on how one sees it -wonderful or dreadful - NCL posted their financials for the 3rd quarter this morning and met Wall Street's profits forecast. Let's the real wall of flames begin![emoji6]

But analysts change forecasts all the time

Is the forecast referred to the one made 6 months ago or a revised forecast made 6 weeks ago

I would have to say that is pretty funny, but I hope you are not comparing that experience with how clean or unclean the ships are today. That was many years ago. We also got a kick out of what happened to us a few years ago. We had gotten some wine we really didn't like at all, after only one sip each we did our best to recork it and toss it in the trash. I guess our cabin steward thought it was an accident and pulled it our of the trash and put it on the desk. We throw it away a second time and the same thing: finally the third time we got the idea.
