Adventure of Seas Jan 23 Drag Queen Cruise

The more replies I read (other than Club Disney Chandler and the Like comments to it) the more irritated I felt!!

So what...

If there are families with small children

If they are are dressed differently than you (most people do dress different!!)

If they eat at the same table as you do!

If they lay by the pool

If they go into windjammer

If they go to the theater

I could go on but I think I have made my point!

They are human beings, they ARE NOT murderers, they ARE NOT child molesters, they Are NOT felons! They are just different than you are! That doesn't make them bad...

I am so tired of the bigotry in the world. Why can't good people be who they want to be without someone calling them dirty or discriminating against them!!

The OP never said any of those things. They never said they had a problem with drag queens. They said they had a problem with large groups taking over half the ship. They might have been a little quick on the panic button but you might have been a little quick on the bigotry trigger too.

I was speaking in general, not specifically to the OP. Maybe if you weren't so quick to judge me, you would have gotten that point...

I am sorry if you missed the message...

One of the most fun times we had at the Embassy Suites in FLL was when there was a roller derby conference in town. We arrived at the hotel to find out that it was 80-90 percent were derby guests.

That was outmost memorable stay ever at any hotel. They were so much fun, for all the right reasons. We had to read all of their derby names on their shirts, and each one was just as creative as the other's.

I experienced something similar a few years ago...was booked on the Carnival Glory only to find out after booking that approx 60% of the ship was booked by Drag Stars at Sea. While I personally do not have any issue with drag queens, I do have an issue with sailing with ANY large group, be it basket-weavers, red hat group, religious groups, etc. Large groups tend to take over venues, pool decks, bars, etc. and I do not want to experience this, if given the choice.

I feel that if ANY large group books more than 50% of cabins, then the cruise line bears some responsibility in notifying potential passengers not in the group. Or the large group can charter an entire ship. In my situation, we cancelled before final payment and booked another sailing on NCL from Miami on those same dates as the Glory (had already bought plane tickets). It turns out that Carnival received some major backlash from passengers on that sailing and issued a full refund plus travel expense refund for anyone not wanting to go. We had quite a few passengers on our NCL sailing that had jumped ship from the Glory.

If I'm using my precious vacation time and dollars to go on a cruise, I expect to enjoy all aspects of the ship and not be crowded out by a huge group. 300 people is tolerable, but 1000+? No thanks!

Our group just found out that probably over half of the ship will be taken over by this Drag Queen cruise. Our group leader read about it on the roll call board. We are all very disappointed that RCCL never bothered to let us know about this HUGE group coming onboard. I thought I should put this on the main board in case someone else doesn't know and wants to cancel. You only have until Nov 9th. I'm really glad we found out before we couldn't cancel without a penalty.

Well, there will only be 19 actual drag queens (all from Ru Paul's drag race show) the group will mostly be gay men, hundreds of them! There will also be people like myself, cross-dressers. (Oh no!) It's too bad you wont be joining us, I can assure you there's nothing more funner than a boat full of drunken gay men!

We were on Navigator last week and there was a Drag Queen group on the ship they had some private parties and events going on. If someone hadn't told me I wouldn't have even known they were on board. I only saw one in full dress in the casino one night.

They are just a fun group of people trying to have some fun on vacation just like the rest of us. Glad they are able to be out and not have to hide behind closed doors like the old days.

Be proud of who you are

Happy sailing

I bet it was hell trying to pass one of them in the hallway.:D

That's funny. You just didn't want to be pushed into the "middle of the track" from the hallway. It's a long drop to the ground floor in the Embassy Suites. :p

Dang--I miss all the fun! I'd love to be on this cruise.

I can sort understand being leery of any big group on a ship (or other contained space), but I cannot understand worrying about "families with young children" etc. If your family is that closed minded, travel may not be for you--because the world is full of all kinds of awesome people and the more you get out in the world the more of that you and your kids will see (that is a major reason we love to travel--meeting so many interesting people).

But, yeah, if you don't want big groups chartering out part of a sailing, hotel, theme park, etc while you are there I pretty much think it is on you to do some googling and try to find out if there might be something. I really cannot fathom why it would be the cruiseline's responsibility to tell you about other passengers--seems like an invasion of privacy of other passengers if anything.

The contest? Who can be the most righteous!

One person expresses a point of view that is contrary to the replies that were posted, but if you read the replies....they are all condescending, righteous and PC.

Glad we have eliminated free thought, freedom of speech and all now can march to the tune of political correctness.

When did we get to the point where I can jam my point of view down your throat but you cannot express your point of view without mean spirited commentary?

People always throw out the freedom of speech thing. You're free to say what you like up to a point, but everyone else is free to disagree with you. People are free to make racist statements, but as most of humanity has moved on from the 1950s, they'll probably find that not only do few agree with them, but most will quite rightly call them out on their small mindedness.

The other side of freedom of speech is that it doesn't apply in all places at all times. You can't walk into my bedroom at 2am and start calling me names and then claim freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is the right to disagree with the government without retaliation from the government.

Remember, all it takes for evil to win is for good men to stay silent.

Well said, the discussion of the drag queens being aboard this cruise began on our roll call thread approximately 5 months ago, so it's not like it's been a big secret.

We were on a cruise a few years ago with a cross dressing group on-board and you barely saw them. You were lucky to see one on most days and it was mostly for diner that we did see someone dressed up. I have no idea how big the group was, but they did not have any impact on our cruise.

I want drag queens on my cruise! Have you ever partied with drag queens? They're the best! The only problem is they look far more fabulous than I do on my best days; it gives me a bit of a complex.

I'm fine with my kids seeing and interacting with drag queens. My oldest son's godfather has many friends that still do shows.
